I'm a (long-lurking, first-posting) 4b natural who hasn't used heat in 5 or so years (and had a major chop between then and now). My hair isn't really long enough to consistently pull back, either. Yet, for some strange reason, I still get these weird straggly straight hairs :nono:. It seems they stick out of every style I do except twist-outs and such, because then the rest of my hair is stretched too.
I've attached a few pics on my wet hair; it gets worse when it's drier.

Anyone else get these? How can I avoid or fix them? It seems like even deep conditioning won't fix them. Are they damage of some sort?

When my hair was shorter, I noticed those straight hairs in the front of my hairline. I thought I didn't cut all my relaxer off but realized that is how some of my hair was. I also notice straight hairs on my nephew's head and he has type 4b (which is the type my hairline is also) so I'm guessing this is a characteristic of that type.

I get them. They were more noticeable when my hair was a twa. I just cut them so they aren't noticeable.

When my hair was shorter and they really stuck out, I just cut them down to the length of the rest of my hair. I think a couple of pages back, there was a stylist who had photos of her client's type 2 hair with random 4b in the middle too.
I think unfortunately we just can't do anything about those random straight hairs :ohwell:

Thanks for posting this! I have those random straight hairs, and I notice them after I wash. I thought I was doing something wrong!

My hair looks exactly like that, except I have quite a lot of straight hairs all over my head. I kept my hair short for years so I never noticed them then, but I do now since I decided to grow my hair out. The straight hairs are the reason why my hair looks so frizzy to me. Thankfully I didn't go out of my way to tame the "frizz" with product.

The only thing that has me bummed is that I'm going to have to straighten my hair to get it trimmed now. I really have no desire to straighten my hair ever, but I'd be cutting off a few inches of perfectly healthy hair if I trim it curly.

Same with me.

I created a thread just like this earlier this year.
It's normal.
