Well I have thick natural curly hair and its soooo dry. I have been doin CW everyday because I cant seem to control it the next day. I comb it everyday due to the CW's and I wonder if this is too much manipulation??
I use Shealoe on my hair but it still doesnt give me the mositure my hair needs when I wear puffs. BUT it is great for twists. I dont want to have to wet my hair everyday and wait for it to air dry...is there anything out there that will give me rich mositure but not heavy enough to make me look like im soaking..lol (and will also keep my curls defined in the process) ???? Not too big on the oil sprays because im tryin to stay away from the dripping oil look...

I also recently cut about an inch off of it because my ends are horrible due to my recent microbraids. I feel as if my hair is just goin to break all off due to the dryness.... :(

First I have to say that your hair is beautiful!!!

I had the same problem that you are having before I came to this board. This is what helped me: 1st you need to do a deep conditioning once a week for about a month. I use Elasta QP DPR-11 but use whats best for you. Then when you do your CW's put your hair in a protective style for a while to give your hair a rest. Use a moisturizer on your hair. I use Elasta QP Mango butter but again use what you like. Afterwards I use an oil like coconut oil as a sealer to seal in all the moisture. Afros I have found is not a good way to retain moisture. Its really hard to keep your hair moisturized with a fro. No matter what I did or put on my fro's it always seemed dry. Use moisturizers along with oils and you should be good to go. Wear afros sparingly and don't wear them too many days in a row, especially in winter. I HTH!!

Thank you so much!! I think that I am going to try and give my hair a break from all the styling that i do everyday...and purchase a good deep conditioner...i may give elasta qp a try..heard good things about it. I think I am going to take ur advice and start so that I don't have to cut anymore of my length.

Co-signing on the beauty of your hair and the effectiveness of Elasta QP Mango Butter. :yep: I've used it only a couple of times in the last few days and it's really made a positive difference in the feel of my hair.

I know this is off topic and I am not trying to high-jack your thread, but Balisi your hair is very pretty! I just saw your album.

Let me know how it turns out! :)

Our hair looks very similar and I had terrible dry hair. The east coast dry winters don't help.

I often (like right now) walk around my house with a freshly CW head, damp, loaded with a leave-in conditioner and an oil (currently MTG) under a shower cap and a hat. The hat is key and it should fit snuggly, like a skully cap. I leave that shower cap on all day or night while home. The hat allows my body heat to infuse my hair with conditioner and moisture. Kinda like a steam room.

Sometimes I'll sleep in it too. Then when I'm ready to go to work in the AM, I'll wear a protective style that allows my hair to air dry.

I don't know if that seems extreme, but a couple of winters ago, I did this faithfully, several times a week, for most of the winter and I haven't had a serious bout of dryness since. Now I only do this when I feel I need it or as a preventative measure.

***BTW, it also helps if you're single. I can't imagine an SO putting up with the "hat technique".

You've gotten some great tips form the ladies, ITA 100% CW, baggie, protective styles, you may want to do buns for a while until the moisture comes back to your ends then you can wear you beautiful curls out here and there. hth

I see a few similarities in our hair textures, I have the same problem sometimes and find myself changing products as the seasons change. Have you tried pure (organic & unrefined) coconut oil? I apply that to my hair after my daily CW's and it seals in the moisture nicely and keeps the tangles away for the most part.

Fiberguard Sustenance Fortifying treatment....that's all i have to say...you'll be PLEASANTLY surprised

Oh, and one more thing...if you want to wear it curly..try Beyond the Zozne Noodle head....VERY moisturizing w/o being heavy and greasy

WOW ..thank you all for your suggestions...sorry it took so long to respond..i didn't realize!!!! LOL! But I am taking all of your advice...as of right now cash flow is on LOW...becuz I am a recovering product junkie!!! haha But I think I am going to purchase some of the products mentioned...and give them a shot. I will continue the CW's ..I am thinking on buying Elucence Shampoo and Conditioner too (hmm..read some good things on that). I haven't tried the unrefined coconut oil...I will look into that too. As of right now I am rocking the twists for a couple of weeks until i get some $$$$..LOL!

Kha, where do you get your unrefined coconut oil? I'm trying to beat my gel addiction!

I get it from a local health store called The Better Health Store...they have a website (www.thebetterhealthstore.com). I've used both the edible version and the one specifically marked for hair and skin use. If you're trying to beat your gel addication, this stuff won't replace it, it's not a hair smoother at all. I use it daily under my aloe vera gel for a smoothed down look.

You may need to deep condition your hair with a moisturizing conditioner on a weekly basis with heat to fight the dryness.
