Hello ladies

it is great you decided to get relaxed; and it would be great if you decided to stay natural. But... In both cases you have to make sure you keep your hair HEALTHY.... Go to a professional for your first relaxer then ( if you can do it properly) do the touch ups at home...

OP I'm sorry that so few people were actually able to answer your question... I sent you a PM but forgot to add I do my whole head starting at the back because for me thats where the hair is more coarse.
Oh and personally I would stay away from so called professionals unless you want your hair fried. Let's face it you know much more than a lot of them...do you girl!

While this goes on and on, some of the ladies on here gave great advice, if you decide to self relax.

Please post pictures when you're done OP!!!

thank you guys for your how too, Ive always been self sufficient when it comes to hair been doing mine and others since I was 13, so i think ill be ok self relaxing, I have a small head hehe :)

I'm a lil confused at this part...

using protein just after rinsing the relaxer, then neutralizing? I thought that without neutralization the relaxer is still processing within the hair strands?
Isnt it better to use protein after neutralization as the cuticles are still open?

And I thank all the naturals who've got my back, its appreciated, Im not gonna be restrained by my hair natural or relaxed, I think Ive just got itchy feet and want to try something new, at the end of the day I can always grow it back out (I never did the twa,it could be a good look hmm)

I will still be trying the press anyway I will post if I think its worth it

ohh and I really want to thank the girls who sent me PM's, thats the LHCF Lurrrve, that is great to see. you guys are the bestest:circle:

Wow, some people can really get there panties in a twist over one sentence, eh?

Well, anyway, further to what I said in my first post, glad to see you'll be getting a press before you make an irreversible decision like relaxing. If you do decide to relax after, you're at the right place for excellent advice!

Also glad to see you're coming to the London meet up, yay!

If you use protein before you neutralize, the protein will better penetrate into the hair cuticles and provide more protein to the protein-depleted hair strands. The protein conditioner will still help to bring the Ph level down. You are only going to leave it on for 3-5 minutes (though I do confess to actually going to 10 minutes at times) during this step. So, there will be no damage to your hair.

I think for your first self relaxer you should skip the protein step and just follow the directions and neutralize after you rinse. It's probably going to take you a little longer the first time you self relax, so you'll probably want to neutralize as soon as possible.

You're right that without neutralization the relaxer is still processing so for your first self relax you should probably stay on the safe side and just neutralize. I don't do the protein step before neutralization so this may not be a step you will need to do.

The most important thing to avoid is overprocessing because it will weaken the hair and lead to breakage, so that's why I think that you should wait to do the protein step until after you've gotten better and quicker at self relaxing, so that you can avoid overprocessing your hair.
