Natural's help a sistah out, what can I do to keep my hair from shedding? I don't see the white bulb on the ends all the time. Does that mean it's breaking and shedding?

If you aren't seeing white bulbs it might be breakage. I shed alot, but I can tell by the length of the hairs if its breaking or shedding. I always thought shedding to be part of the normal life cycle of hair, and mine is very thick/dense, so I try not to worry about it. I am, however, trying to reduce the amount of broken hairs I see when I comb or style, and so far so good.

Do you use heat on your hair? Do you comb often?

If you're not seeing the bulb, then some of it probably is breakage

Before you get worked up though, look at each strand that comes out and see if there's a bulb (sometimes it's really small).

If it is breakage, you may need some protein. Aubrey Organics GPB is an AWESOME light protein that works really well on my hair (strength + moisture).

Unfortunately, no bulb = breakage.

I agree with adding weekly protein treatments with heat followed by a good moisturizing conditioner. You may want to start with an Aphogee treatment initially since it's supposed to stop breakage in its tracks. Just make sure you follow the directions 100%. Have you clarified in a while? Could you possibly have build up?

Afterwards, you may want to go a while with daily moisturizing (with oil to lubricate your strands)and protective styles and refrain from much combing and brushing. Make sure you keep your hair and scalp clean, too.

Examine these four areas:

1. Stress, try to destress your life as much as possible.

2. Try taking a multi-vitamin or B complex, both are good for general health. Many women tend to be low on Folic Acid and Iron which over time can effect hair shedding.

3. Look over your hair routine to see if you can't tweak anything. The suggestions above where very good

4. Last but not least the more you stress over it the more you may compound the problem. So do what you can and let go after that (I know that's hard).

Some things I used when natural:

1. Motions CPR every week
2. African Pride Braid Spray to style and braid up hair at night. Always remember to comb your hair only when damp.
3. A BIG afro pick

4. Olive Oil
5. Try Cream of Nature Shampoo and Conditioner
6. Sleep in a satin bonet or on a satin pillow
7. Always use protective hair styles, like twist, braids, corn rows, and afro puffs.

Hope that helps.
