Does anyone know of a site that is dedicated to hair care for african american children? I need some help wtih my little girls hair, she doen't have a relaxer or texturizer and the things that I use for myself are a little tto strong for her scalp. She has very very dry skin and scalp. I don't want to perm her hair but I feel it's not growing. I have had it trimmed once or twice and I try to keep it braided or in two-strand twist. It just doesn't seem to be thriving like it should. Any advice you ladies can give is highly appreciated. I think she is between a 3A and 3B.

Well, I don't know what everybody else will say but I don't think perming her hair will help with the fact that she has very very dry scalp. It would probably aggravate the situation. What kind of stuff are u looking to put on her hair? It seems to me that she would only need a very good moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, leave-in (maybe a kiddie leave-in), some type of daily moisturizer like petroleum/lanolin free pomade/grease or spray moisturizer, and a simple hairstyle like braids or twists. I would also personally recommend that you protect your hair at night by giving her a scarf or a satin pillowcase just to get her in the habit of protecting her hair at night. It's probably just best to keep it as simple as possible. In the meantime, I'll be on the search for a website and/or books that deal with AA children hair. I did find. "it's all good" at amazon but i'mnot sure if it's only about hairstyles or hair health also.

Please don't perm her hair! If her scalp is dry, it will aggravate it or possibly burn it. Have u ever tried letting her wear her hair out? 3A/B hair sounds very pretty! Anyhow, try to moisturize her hair-maybe a mix of almond oil, shea butter, and castor oil.... or just plain ol' water. Hope this helps. She's so cute! :) U did her hair yourself? U got mad skills!

what is her current routine? and what products are you using?

(by the way - her hair looks beautiful to me. nice styles :) )

Ur daughter's hair is very beautiful. I had a problem with my daughter's scalp dryness, but since I have been washing her hair weekly(i normally use CON dry/damaged) it makes her hair really soft and very easy to manage. I also use Sta sof fro as a detangler or just on her scalp. I usually use olive oil or sulfur 8 or hot six oil on her scalp. DO NOT PERM HER HAIR!! I'm an adult and i wish i had never gotten a perm. I think my hair would have been a lot healthier and thicker that way. Her hair can thrive, just keep working on it..you'll see. GOOD LUCK!!
