Natchals! Are You Wearing Scarves!?

I wear scarves on and off as the mood strikes me and my hair doesn't go down either. :) I'm actually looking through my collection of old clothes. If they're made from nice fabric that I plan to cut them up and recycle them as scarves.

Very good idea...I have tons of scrap fabric from previous sewing projects and have made a few from it before.

So I tried to do the scarf thing tonight but struggled. I'll try again another time. I threw that **** on the floor and KIM.

I wore them with my TWA then got out the habit. Wore one this past weekend and I miss them! Definitely starting to wear them again.

I tried (and failed) this method

Oooh! Yeah I would look crazy doing this style.

That's what I'm saying! It never comes out like the pictures

@Foxglove  maybe you should pat your hair down?

@pookaloo83, why do you think it'd look funny The second image I posted of my scarf was done similarly to the vids Foxglove posted even though I'd never really watched a vid on it. And you can cover more of your hair so there's no mushroom effect...or if your hair is flopping over the scarf, pat it down.

When I do my scarves, I don't really look at anyone--which is why I always come up with something no one else is sporting or that doesn't really look like anyone's--and if it happens, it usually a coincidence. Sometimes it's better to not try to imitate another look or not to care if you don't get the exact effect you are trying to copy. You may find your way actually looks better than what you were trying to create but coz you're busy trying to perfect the other look, you end up giving up on something that was working. Seriously dare to be different. You may just set a new trend. :poke: None of my scarves look the same from day to day, even though I may do the exact same thing as before. So every time I tie a scarf, even though I demonstrated before what I did, I always get asked "So how did you do your scarf this time?" I think daring to be different can be fun.

Nonie I looked like a straight up mushroom head. This is an artists rendition of what I looked like. ETA all that to say, patting won't keep alladis down

Foxglove From that image you drew, it's just as I suspected: you used too small a scarf and left most of you hair out. I reckon you'd get better results if you used a bigger scarf that covered your head more so that only your crown is left uncovered. If you hair can shrink to 3 inches, you can do it. :yep:

@Foxglove, here's what I mean:

pookaloo83, you pull off some very neat styles on your own, so trust your skills and rock what you come up with. For all you know, maybe those you're copying were actually trying to get the do you got...and are just as good as I am at fronting. :giggle: Remember my Coolio do? Girl you work it, everyone buys it. :giggle:

:lachen::lachen::lachen:Ok Well I'm gonna try again! The thing is I think my scarf is too small Nonie. It's like it didn't cover all of my hair.

pookaloo83 Another thing you could try is to create a puff or mohawk using bobby pins and then tie the scarf. Or if you think that'll make the sides look too flat, you can first wrap a gathered scarf right under where the puff bulges out and then when you tie the scarf, it'll not look so flat against your head but will give the illusion of your hair being puffy under there.

Also you can start with having the scarf as open as possible and cover your head so you look kinda like Tintin  and then you can slowly pull it down exposing more of your hair and created a "gathered" effect till you're happy with the revealed shape.

The hair pins is a good idea.

I'll try the bolded next time

oh thanks for the pics ladies!

however, i'm also one of those people that look horrible in them :nono:

I love scarves, but I don't have a back bump in the back of my head so there is nothing for the scarve to hold onto and so it slides right off. I would really rock some if I could.

blazingthru I have a flat head in the back too. It just kept sliding up.

I like to wear scarves but I like to go to fabric stores and get pieces of silk there. Its a lot cheaper and I can get the same effect.

You just gave me an idea. I am having trouble finding satin scarves.
I am going to make a trip down to my nearest fabric store.

Thanks!

Nonie pookaloo83 I think I got a workable version
I pinned my hair up like so

Then did the scarf. Initially I had it like the girls in the video but I changed it to this since I'm gonna try this look for work and didn't want to go overboard
