Nape Growth Challenge Anyone?

Hi ladies.

I have never started this challenge on this board, but I think I need to because I'm really struggling with my nape area.

For some reason my nape completely broke off and it seems to be the most fragile part of my hair and doesn't seem to retain length.

In the past couple of months I have been paying attention to it and I have seen some growth back there.

So I'm wondering if anyone else is having this problem and wants to grow out their nape? I will post a pic of it but only if your interested I an actual challenge.

So is anyone interested??

I watched her video a while ago and I've been doing that w/dd on and off. I think with more consistency it will grow her nape.

ETA: Yes, I'm going to start doing this every day for me and DD. I will spray the braids/twist with leave in every other day.

My hair is sooo short back there I wouldn't be to plait it like that. It's completely broken off!
I don't even know how.

The very last inch of the back of my hair is about 2 inches long andd before I started taken care of it, I could just about pick it up between my fingers. It was that short.

Now I'm able to plait it in sections but can't canerow it in one long braid. It's still not long enough.

I think the only thing that s helping is regularly moisturising it. More than the rest of my hair. So I'm definitely going to keep an eye on it.

I will definitely join this challenge. My nape has gotten better now that I treat it separately from all of my hair. It's a different texture completely from the rest of my hair. I usually wear a half up half down hairstyle which leaves my nape exposed but I do my best to baby that area especially during my deep conditioning treatments.

I moisturize my hair every two or three days with extra attention to the nape area.

I think I would join. My hair is APL, but my nape is SL. I recently started using the technique in the video, but this uneven length has my OCD acting up. I'm trying to keep from bobbing it, but man I love blunt ends...

@NefertariBlu, you can cane/cornrow it across the bottom of your head and cover it with your other hair. In addition, keep it moisturized and pliable.

I would join the challenge officially but I will cheer on for the challengers. Im growing my nape as well. I know it's biological that my nape is a much softer looser texture because my mom is the same way.

Here's a video from DSD:

I remember watching her video some time ago. I watched her updated video last night. She's made really good progress!

I did this last night but with twists. It's too short to braid across.

The hair back there is a lot finer than the rest. It's a lot more fragile, so I suspect that's the reason it broke off.

I'm currently wearing a half wig for my protective style choice. So its not resting on my nape or edges.

For those who are interested let me know when you'd like to start and I'll get things set up.

I'm in too for both my nape and edges. My napes has been at cbl for the longest and the kitchen area too always gets knotty so I have to cut the coils off. I'm going to keep it stretched with a flat twist or regular twists and see how that helps. My edges too I don't know if I just have really long baby hairs or it's breakage but I'll be flat twisting those as well and see if that helps.

I'm definitely in! I recently lost a large amount of hair in my nape. My Dr told me I have an iron deficiency and I'm borderline anemic. So that's what I contribute my loss too. I'm transitioning to natural so I'll keep it braided under my wigs.

I'm in too for my nape and my sides. I found this bald spot in my nape early this year:

I didn't do anything about it until I recommitted myself to hair growing this summer. After using JBCO mixed with peppermint oil from August 29 to October 18 it looked like this:

I'm now using MTG with MN and peppermint and other essential oils I posted about in the 12 inches in one year thread. When I remove my crotchet braids in December I'll take another pic of the progress.

My sides have the same issue a lot of you do with your nape, grows then breaks off, different texture, etc. I'm trying to fix that with my diet, vitamins, protective styling and growth-aids so we'll see how it improves.

I have nape challenges. Its not too short, but its shorter than the rest of my hair. In the fall and winter, I wear scarves, coats, sweaters, etc and I know it doesn't help my nape. I was thinking about shaving it down (about 1-2" up) but I know I would have to keep doing it as it grows out and I don't want to to deal with that. I will check out this thread and the posted videos for more options.

Oooohh, this is a nice thread. I think Ima lurk for a while. My nape area grows in pretty good and honestly I don't know why. I always had a long growing nape area even though I wear half wigs, I mean a lot! My hair texture back there is pretty soft as well so that might be why I think.

Now the front in the exact opposite location is having some issues though. I might stay in here to get that part of my hair back to normal. I believe I might have to start with how I wear my half wigs. I may have to NOT use the combs in that area of my head:rolleyes:.

Ok. I think I'll turn it in a December challenge.

Is 6 months a good time or should we go for a year?

Since I started this thread I have had my nape in 4 plaits and I manged to canerow the shortest pieces in the kitchen area.

I have been moisturising it and using JBCO back there.

I actually don't understand why it's so fine back therem

@NefertariBlu, 6 months might be enough time. It's not actually that bad for me so I believe I myself will only need 3-4 months to get the front top part of my hair to fill in a little more, you can barely see it but the OCD in me won't leave it alone. The rest of my edges are in perfect condition, thank God.

My nape is the finest part of my hair. It's really soft and coily so it gets knotty. Currently my nape is apl, but my goal is to get it to bsl within 6 months.

Wow! It's APL? That seems like Never Never land to me loool.

My nape is Struggle City lol. It's going to take a lot of work!

Ok I think I post the challenge up from Dec to June 2016. I've already taken my pics so I'll add it to the challenge thread.

6 months is good for me. I want to see about 2 inches back there by June, as that is where I measure my overall length from (trying to get it from BSB to MBL). For the past two weeks I've been wearing the nape in a braid just like on the video. I just spray it with a leave in, seal periodically like the rest of my hair.

My nape is my fastest growing area, but it's also the most fragile. I am looking forward to straightening my hair in the next 2 weeks so I can access my hair and do an end of year trim.

I'm in for this challenge. Right now my nape is ~APL and the rest of my hair is ~WL but I feel like my nape keeps me from claiming full WL. I'm trying out keeping my nape in two twists. Hopefully I'll have fewer knots and resulting breakage.

Hi Ladies!

I removed my crotchet braids and made great progress in my nape in the last six weeks.

I'm taking vitamins and eating healthier but I really think the MTG and essential oils are helping most with regrowing the bald/thin spots and speeding my growth.

Happy hair growing everyone!

So I was hoping I'd be able to braid my damaged spot, but it's only like .5 an in or so. The left side is damaged too, but I can braid it.
