My twist out just isn't the same

Ladies, I am having a problem. When I was transitioning at first I was crimping my hair and then a friend intrduced me to the twistout. I fell in love  . My hair would come out smooth and crimped. But now when I twist out my hair does not respond the same at all. :( When I take it out the ends are poofy and looks like a fro almost- nothing wrong with it but its not the look I was going for. Now all I can do is pull it up.....Any one experience this???? Any suggestions???

Sounds like hair shrinkage due to your transitioning is causing this effect. My recommendation would be to try a twist out after you flat iron the new growth.

I have the exact same problem and would like to know the answer too. I tried using the fantasia IC clear gel when I twist my hair wet. They dry in perfect twists, but no matter how carefully I take them out, the ends frizz up. Makes me want to cut them all off! And yes I have inspected them - no splits here.

O...I'm 100% natural now......also my roots are alot more wavy, the ends are frzzed

I haven't seen your hair, but if its like mine, then that's normal. You either need to make smaller twists or see what happens when you twist all the way to the ends. The poof could also be due to you needing a trim/cut. When my ends are in good shape, this isn't as much of an issue. Usually though, I just need to make smaller twists, add a little extra product (for definition) and try not to manipulate the hair too much.

How are you moisturizing your ends? It sounds like your hair might be undermoisturized. Sometimes, it also helps to ensure that your ends/strands are staying smooth by adding a butter or gel when you are twisting for a twistout. My best twistouts are dicated by either the length of time the twists are in, twisting on wet rather than dry hair, and twisting with a product that weighs down my hair.

You probably need to clarify (with apple cider vinegar rinse or clarifying shampoo), because depending on the products you use there may be a lot of build up on your hair. Many products have mineral oil, petroleum, paraffin and other cones that can keep your hair from cooperating! So it helps to clarify on the regular...

But i also think your new growth is also the other factor, so you might have to find a product to control it as it grows in! ...a good problem, at least it is growing!

HTH! HHG!

I think my hair IS undermoisturized- I just purchased 10 en 1, S-curl moisturizer, and MOtions hair lotion--- I hope that works. I stopped conditioning my hair for a little while.....WHat have I done:confused: :( :ohwell: Do you think these products will be enough to restore my hair?

when i do my braid outs i use a leave in, and s-curl while i'm braiding/twisting. I make sure my ends are saturated in the s-curl, then i seal my ends with good ol' fashioned grease (blue magic). When my hair dries, my ends are very tamed and moisturized. They won't be greasy because a lot of the oil evaporates away while the hair is drying. HTH. Congrats on being natural :woot:

Yup, I twist my hair on wet hair only, usually I air dry. Lately it takes alot longer for my hair to dry for soem reason. Occasionally I will sit under the dryer.
