Hey y'all! I've been transitioning (by accident) since the year started. I decided I would not get a chemical relaxer/texlax for 2008... My last touch up was 12/12/07. Then I determined why not go for it! If I can make it one year without touching up, I should be able to go 2 years, and so on.... I plan to do this without the BC. So far so good... The test will be the summer.

Today I shampooed and conditioned my hair then bunned with a little leave in. I was shocked at my new growth thus far. In the middle it's EXTREMELY thick and difficult to comb and lay down. It also appears I have the dreaded thin spot my mom & grandma have at the front of my head :( At any rate, here are the pics :)

More of the same in my Fotki.

BTW, this is damp hair with leave in... I had just pulled back... I've had to tie it down now with hopes that it doesn't fuzz up.

I'm so happy for you!! Sometimes it's a very difficult to make a decision like this - CONGRATS!!

Since you're doing so well with an entire year under your belt, you shouldn't run into any problems later on either.

your hair looks like it doing beautifully!! :yep:

Thanks Lynnie!!! Last time I only made it to 7 months... so right about now is when I got a lil antsy and let someone talk me into "texturizing" which ended up being a relaxer! If I can make it through this summer I'm sure I can make it :)

You should not have any problems doing a long transition, your hair looks beautiful. I have seen over the years being on here that month 7 tends to be the dealbreaker, lol, just brace yourself for it and once you get past that I bet you will be fine. Best of luck to you.

Very Nice FAMUDva! I was thinking of doing the same thing for the summer not relaxing. I plan on keeping my hair in braids! Where is your fokti located?

COOL! How's your transition going so far?

Was tough @ first, controlling the volume and dryness, but since I found out about yogurt an steam treatments, smooth sailing.....99% of the time.... my hair likes to act a fool once in a while :lachen:

Very pretty! Your hair in the back looks like mine. We could be hair twins:grin: I've been transitioning for 9 months.

It's in my profile... I have to remember my password. lol I just locked it a couple of weeks ago when someone mentioned the old freaky guy checking hair fotkis... my new transition fotki's password is FAMU. The link is my profile.

Really?? Glad I know that now. This time around I'm going to be wearing cornrows during month 7 and hopefully month 8... Typically the trouble comes in July/Aug. You know ATL is no joke in the summer time and straightening it is less of an option during the summer since I refuse to use heat more than once a week.

Yogurt??? Girl, I haven't been up on my HCT&PR forum discussions... do you use yogurt as a DC?

Cornrows is a good plan:yep:. I'm excited for you.

Thanks!!! My mom is doing them Monday night without extensions. We'll hope that my hair doesn't crawl too much. Then after that she may re-braid or I may go to a salon and get cornrow extensions. I've never had cornrow extensions so I have to be sure it won't look silly. I'm too impatient to get micros (never had those either).

Good Job

I always admire transitioners--dealing with 2 textures is not an easy feat.

Thanks girlie! You're right... it's not easy. So far my CHI has made it not so bad except shampoo days :( :look: I've not experienced breakage like I did last time.

Congrats. I'm right there with you. I started in November 2007. I'm trying not to DC, but the permed hair is causing me more problems than my natural hair. Stay strong!

Hi there! Your hair looks beautiful. Congrats on your transistion! As for that thin spot in the front, I know you mentioned it could be hereditary. Make sure that your not tying your scarf too tight to lay those waves down. I have a spot that will thin at that same spot and then it thickens back up, I really think my scarf is the culprit.

i think natural hair will suit you very well:yep:

Thanks! I hope it will look nice... My one fear is that I will not be able to switch back and forth like I "thought" I would be able to. I have a friend who has been natural all her life and presses all the time and has no problem with curl pattern. Another friend transitioned 2 yrs ago and said although she gets curls, her coils are not as tight as they used to be because she wears her hair straight 99% of time. She said it doesn't bother her much since there are pro-curling products.

Yeah, I'm planning to skip the BC. At least until I can be at least SL pressed. Nothing against short hair, but I wore it for so long that right now I'm not ready to go back. I'm enjoying a little length :) Hang in there!!!!

That's the thing... I rarely wear a scarf :( Since transitioning I've been wearing my bonnet because I don't really bun much. My mom & grandma have the same exact thinning pattern. My granny is 100% natural and probably a 3b/3c. She doesn't even tie her hair down. I doesn't bother me much unless I'm wearing it straight. I'd be concerned that it was my scarf if it were my entire hair line and not just the corner where it is. I have started wearing looser pony tails and buns and wrapping less often to cover all bases. The relaxed ends are gone in that spot too.

Thanks so much for the insight though.

Hey your hair is looking like mine.. Down to the thinning spot and all.. What type are u?

I have no clue since I don't really get into or like the hair typing thing. I think Balisi told me I am 4a when she did my hair... I guess I consider myself type Hh (Healthy Hair) lol! :lachen:

Okay... it's dry now. These pics are after my hair air dried with the satin scarf on it. I think I'm liking the 6 month phase of my transition :) until I have to comb this stuff. :look:

The "thin" spot after drying under satin scarf... (at least it lays down now)
