My stylist recommend that I get a Vigorol.........

shocked.gif

From what I hear, it's a "shampoo-in-relaxer". Sounds dangerous to me.

BTW...is your stylist named Longhairdiva?
laugh.gif

No...who is Longhair Diva? Am I missing something? I seriously just wanted an answer to my question...well never mind.

I wasn't trying to be funny.

Hi Auntybe

Yes, I tried it a long time ago, when I first went natural. It is very similiar to a Jheri Curl. The problem that I had with it is that it dried my hair out terribly. I have seen this product work for some people but it definately didn't work for me at all.
nono.gif
This is also a very old school product and since then other's that might be better are now on the market like Lusters. They sell an ammonium thigloclate product that might be better but I am not recommending, just mentioning.

Thanks Hairfanatic. I thought it was an old school product because I hadn't heard a lot about it.

Hi Auntybe

Haven't seen you around in a while. Yes, Vigorol is very old school (am I dating myself
look.gif
) It is a liquid relaxer product. I used a long time ago and it dried my hair out. But then again that was pre-hair board days. If I were to use anything of that nature now, I would use the stuff sold by gold medal products. I can't remember the name right now. I'll see if I can find a link for you. Someone here has used it and said that it was Henna, Cornsilk, Sage and Nettle and it only loosened her curl to make her hair more manageable. It's all natural. Other then that how is your hair coming along?

Nit4:

Thanks I was thinking about Gold Medal products. My hair is coming along really well. I have gotten 2 inches of growth and I am still in the weave. My stylist recommended the Vigorol because she said that my hair has gotten really thick. I have been using S-Curl on my tracks. I just can't get the itching under control.

Auntybe, i dont think Crysdon was mocking you, its just that we had a serious TROLL problem on the baords a week ago and this was one of the products in the trolls' "REgime". This woman posted fake pics of herself and another little girl which she claimed was her "daughter". She was a nut. the troll went by the name of Longhairdiva, and had some other screename's as well. She was a tyrant.
Vigoral IMO is not safe, it ranks with Copa and other so called natural straighteners. They all have some form of chemical in them.

Anybody know the ingredients??

I remember when my grandma was living she got her hair pressed and when she would "Go South", Alabama for two weeks in the summer my aunt would give her that so her hair would'nt revert.

I can't remember if she said it worked or not I think it did.

My mom put one in my hair when I was in jr. high. The late 70's.
sekret.gif
My hair didn't fall out, but it was very dry and it turned a red/auburn color (which I liked
cool.gif
). And it stank like nothing you have ever smelled before. Like rotten eggs.
barf.gif

Everyone I know that used it ended up with very dry hair that still reverted when it got wet!

Of course we weren't moisturizing our hair every day back then, either. The ingredients are similar to a curly perm. Maybe if we had S-Curl Spray back then our hair wouldn't have dried out...

If your hair is sensitive to the chemicals in a relaxer I don't think Vigorol is a good idea. Judging by the ingredients, it's even more harsh than a lye relaxer.

Vigorol Liquid Relaxer

, Water, Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate, Ammonium Thioglycolate, Ammonium Hydroxide, Fragrance, D&C Yellow #8.

My cousin sent me to the store to do the research after I directed her to the troll "photo album". THANK GOD I was able to tell her that the woman in those photos did not have a Vigorol before she put it in her hair!

If something bad had happened to her hair, she would have beat me until I blew snot bubbles.

Then you would have had to track down the troll lady/man/it and beat snot bubbles out of them too.

Hello,

I agree with everybody else. Vigorol can be very drying. When i was transitioning from relaxer to natural, my hair was so unbelievably hard to combout. Well i didn't want to go the relaxer route, so i decided to put in a vigoral; (thinking that it is mild and gentle out of all the relaxers). Well I am still paying for it today. My hair has grown out quite a bit, but the hair that has the vigoral relaxer on it, is very dry and brittle. My hair is 4a and vigoral did nothing for my hair. It did not release the kink and to me it just made matters worse. If your hair is doing fine, please don't defeat your purpose by doing something that you may regret later. Just my input.

Thanks ladies....I knew If I came to you first I would get the facts. I think I am going to buy the pink pressing oil from Gold Medal and take that to my stylist when we take my weave out.

Auntybe, check the ingredients, but I'm thinking the Gold Medal would be safer for you. Glad to hear that your hair is doing so well. You may also want to try the Henna tread started by Sweetcocoa. I think there is a post in there regarding the use of the Gold Medal product. Then you could send a PM for additional information if the post doesn't satisfy your curiosity. There is also alot of other good information in there on Hennalucent, Henna and Lotus Powder which also loosens the curl pattern and is a natural product. I've used the neutral Hennalucent on my daughter it took the bulk out of her hair and made it easier to comb and can be obtain at a beauty supply store.

Best to you...

I agree with Nita4. I will be giving myself a hennalucent treatment this weekend. I'm hoping that it will make my hair easier to comb. I will mix various oils in the hennalucent treatment and shampoo and do a moisturizing condition afterwards. I've used henna products in the past so i know it will be messy, but if it makes my hair easy to comb then it will be well worth it. I'm still looking for the products that will make my hair easy to comb, because right now, it's a nightmare and I know i'm experiencing some breakage because snap, crackle and pop just will not leave me alone. Hopefully, i will get them in control and show them who really is boss after my hennualcent treatment. Anyway, I will only do my treatments every 4-6 weeks according to their instructions and continue to keep it moisturized with world of curls activator and profectiv mega-growth hair dress.

OMG!!! I just KNEW she was a troll!! That's so funny cuz she had everyone believing that Vigorol was the miracle product for knee length hair. I suspected that she was a troll when I sent her a PM for more info. on Vigorol and she never responded. Funny now to see that my suspicions are confirmed.

I used vigarol a long time ago, back in JHS, and I vaguely
remember that you could press your hair with it. I think that is how I used it, after the vigarol you could press your hair and it made the press last longer. I do not remember having any hair damage or problems from it but I do recall that it stunk like anthing, when I used it the whole house stunk.

Someone on this board put a V in her hair based on the trolls "results". She posted a glowing review in the deleted thread. Soft, shiny, loosely curled hair, blow dried bone straight, etc. Maybe it was one of lhd's sidekicks trying to get others to buy it...

I got that visual from a football clip where a guy was tackled so hard that snot bubbles came out of his nose when he tried to breathe!

Re: My stylist recommend that I get a Vigorol.....

Hi Auntybe
Yes, I remember this product. It was my 1st relaxer and it took my hair from shoulder length to a twa. The problem was that I was entering my 1st year of high school and the afro was not an "in" hairdo. It cost my Mother a mint to send me to the dermatologist for a full year to grow my hair back. Maybe it's formula has changed since then. Be careful.
