I decided to give it a try, as I've been self relaxing at home and was in dire need of a trim.

1. Although the directions suggest that hair be clean and dry, I found it better to moisturize my hair as usual. It provided the proper slip needed.

2. I had to use fairly thin sections of hair, as it is basically like raking a hard plastic brush (with lots of bristles) through your hair. This prevented breaked casused by brushing.

3. It trimed very little off my hair (1/8 - 1/4 of an inch tops) and prevented that "just cut" look. I followed up by remoisturizing the cut ends, and flat ironing as usual.

Overall, I was very pleased with the results. One of the few reasons I'd go to a stylist is to get a trim (unfortunatly there are no Dominican salon here in Tampa that I know of

). At $40 from Walgreens (equal to the cost to get it washed/set/trimmed at the salon), I feel like I got more than my money's worth.

Me too. Ummm but i may wait and see if more people use it successfully. If that happens then I will surely but it. Then I could say goodbye to hairdressers forever.

Me three. I saw it advertised at Wal-greens. I didn't know what it was. I thought to myself that it was pretty darn pricey for a conditioner.

That's what I thought it was.

Now I know better and I really want to try this out. I'm such a gadget person.

gmmp:what hair type are you? i am soooo tempted to go out and buy this thing; i have the worst luck trying to trim my hair... right now im sporting a lop sided trim; but im too wary of hairstylist to let one of them do it...

I have so many textures all throughout my head. The back is 3c and 3b. (There are parts where I can't tell where the new growth isThe hairline is 4a I believe (about 1/8 inch) moving to 3b. The crown is 3c. And my hair is so very thick that if you put your hand in it to see if I need a touchup all you feel is hair (no structure) until you actually separate it. And on top of that, my strands are coarse in spots and medium in spots.

This Saturday will be 17 weeks post-relaxer and this is the first time that I've actually taken care of my hair and kept the new-growth moisturized and soft enough for me to feel its true type. Before I did all the research about hair, I would have told you that my hair didn't have a type. It was just that dry. It felt like straw and looked like it too. But it still grew. Go figure.

I'm thinking about transitioning to natural, but I'm not sure. I do so like my hair straight when I want to, but of course the last time I wore my hair natural was when I was a sophomore in college (1989-1990) and they did not have flat-irons then or if they did I knew nothing about it.

I am relaxed, a 2C/3, wavy yet coarse, unrelaxed new growth, a 3A/3B mix.
The key is thin small parts & lubrication.
Also keep in mind that it won't "trim" anything but ends that are split, so hair that is overprocessed won't be taken off

Epicura, thank you for the review. You stated that it was similar to a plastic brush with lots of bristles. Did it pull out or break of any hair?

No, because I made the parts very thin to prevent tangles(also, the moisturizer/oil combo I put in my hair provided plenty of slip).
Granted I did get a few stands in the brush, analagous to using a regular brush (which I try not to do often), but nothing major.
Seeing as how I won't use this product often (now that the split ends are gone, I'll be taking excellent care of my fragile ends to prevent them from returning) it wasn't anything to stress out over.

Sounds like a good review, but I am so scared to try this myself. For me it sounds like a disaster in the making!

I just used mine yesterday after I pressed my hair. I only used it on the front side because the ends looked so ragged and it really did help. At first my friend was like,"You didn't cut it" and she said I should do it again but I saw the hair in the compartment and I am pleased because it didn't chop off my hair. I am going to do the rest of my hair this weekend.

This sounds like an interesting product . . .

I will be sure to take a look at it the next time I go to Walgreen's. Thanks for the reviews.

P.S. You receive major kudos from me for being BRAVE enough to try it

Oh my

I was just thinking about this product and came across this thread...Gosh, I really want to try it but I have 4a/b hair and I am scared to death that since I have hair lengths of different size, that it might confuse it with a split end and chop it off...

whoo!!!!! a positive review it is about time, I was still going to buy it, I am a natural, I just plan to press it out clean and hopefully see some results

That's all I needed to hear. I've noticed splits and I'm afraid to dust myself (out of control) but I must do something. I was even thinking this weekend of chopping my hair off and starting over too many lengths in my hair presently. As soon as I can locate one within 100 miles of me I'm gonna go for it. Thanks!

I purchased mine yesterday 11/17/03. It seems to be a good thing. Not perfect but good way to "Stay away from scissor happy stylist". Previous survey article picture of cut hair misrepresented the product. They probably just threw it in and it didn't have anything to do with the product. They ought to be ashamed of themselves.

Glad it worked fairly well for you too. Granted, nothing beats a trim with a $90 pair of scissors, but it does the job.

Girl, check the pics! I've got hand in hair disease. Now all I need to do is wash some of the product build up out of my hair again.
