My raggedy roller set came out better than I thought!

Ladies, question... How do you get the roots smooth during a roller set? I am 5 months post and my rollersetting skills leave much to be desired, but when I'm freshly relaxed my roller sets come out perfectly! But with this lil new growth afro I can't seem to roller set worth a damn.

How do I tame the new growth... do I have to use direct heat? I don't wanna.... sitting under a blow dryer was torture enough!

I liked every picture till that signature scared the bejesus out of me again!

My rollersets are never perfect and my roots are never slick unless I go to the salon. But don't worry about that, its nothing a flatiron can't fix. I pass the Chi over my roots and I'm good for one week.

The only thing that straightens my rollersets are ponytail rollersets OR you have to really comb the roots when you are doing a traditional rollerset. I hope I'm helping you. This works for my hair.

Im new to rollersetting and Im getting better and better each time so keep at it, it looks great. I've never been able to get the roots straight either. A week after my last relaxer I washed and rollerset my hair, my roots felt like I never even had a relaxer but a few days went by and they straightened out on their on, but I dont think it would for new growth. My salon stylists raved about some vent rollers she's using on her clients now. Supposedly they hold better and makes your hair straighter, I purchased some and will test them out today. I will keep you posted on how they turn out.

What're they called and where did you get them from? Let us know how they turn out.:yep:

I think it looks lovely. You did a great job. I'm sure some experts will chime in, to aid in taming your roots, so to speak, but it doesn't look "raggedy" to me, as they are.

you did an awesome job!! your hair looks so healthy and good. when my new growth is puffy...I flat iron only the new growth...hope this helps :)

I'll just accept my new growth as my own built in bumpit! haha gives some volume to the look. Thanks ladies. I don't want to use a flat iron b/c I don't want to use that much direct heat, even with a heat protectant I still feel bad for my hair.

ew you're the one with that scary siggy omg I scroll down past your posts all the time to avoid that thing EWWW!
lol
anyways... I love your roller set your hair looks so healthy... try some shea butter or castor oil on the roots that seems to work for my relaxed friend

looks nice! I don't think it looks raggedy either!!
but your signature picture is disturbing! lol

My siggy is Andre J... He is bringing the fierceness. But honestly he scared me too when I first saw him, so I had to share my discovery of a new species with LHCF!

But thanks... I got so frustrated doing my roller set b/c I was trying to put tension on the roots to make then straighter and that didn't happen. So I got to the point where I was just putting rollers in whatever way they fit... some were rolled up some were rolled down. Used random sizes. haha I think if I do a roller set like a month after getting a retouch it will be beautiful! But in my hair journey I'm all about health rather than looks.

Oh and ladies I tried the Generic Joico K-Pac from Sally's... LOVED! (I washed my hair with Queen Halene Garlic Shampoo for the 1st time, LOVE) Then just used the Genric K-Pac, but on a shower cap for like 2 hours then for an hour used my bonnet hair dryer. Then I rinsed and roller set. and the Generic Redkens anti snap stuff... love!

I do the same thing. I run my Sedu over my roots real quick, and I am good. It doesnt take any time.

Your rollerset looks good, ThePerfectScore! Makes me wanna do one, but I havent used heat since May 17th.

Ok, the vent rollers worked so much better than the usual big grey rollers. I have a good length of hair so I purchased the biggest size they had which were smaller than the grey rollers but my hair came out dry and I didnt have to sit under the dryer as long. My hair came out straighter including my roots and they held tighter than the other rollers. A good investment I think.:yep:

TPS, your rollerset is so pretty and shiny. Doing reverse rollersets helps roots lay down a bit straighter. But if you have bushy roots, try the spiral rollerset that Prospurr does, because it blends in the two textures.
