i know this has been done before :) but, i just have to share.

MSM is making my hair sooo smooth and soft, and it has to be responsible for my growth spurts. i permed a month ago and usually i'd be itching to relax again by this time.

uh uhn :D i see stretching my perms for many weeks with this stuff 'cause the hair is growing in softer.

I've been taking MSM religiously for close to 3 months now. I take KALs MSM powder and i usually take a whopping teaspoon. sometimes more.

combing my hair wet or dry was a nightmare. not anymore :) the comb glides right through.

*yay*

Thanks D, for sharing your testimonal AND listing the Brand Name you take. I think I'm going to order some KAL this week:D BTW love ya hurr

I'm having the same results with MSM, at first I couldn't figure out what was going on with my hair. Usually I have to touch up every 5 weeks or so, but I went 11 weeks this last time, and then the touch up wasn't really necessary, I just did one so I could have a fresh start pic for some of the challenges I was in. This time I hope to go at least 16 weeks. :)

What brand are you taking?:) and is MSM doing anything for your skin? That's one of the reason why I want to take it:)

same here my skin is HORRIABLE but I'm afired of birth defects? if i take to much

Yes MSM is great. My hair is a lot better to deal with and it has helped my skin a lot! Dsylla you are so right!

MSM is good stuff. In addition to making my hair soft my allergies are gone. I was on Zyrtec for years and years and after a few weeks of MSM I stopped taking them. I haven't needed them in a year. It also stopped my chronic knee pain.

MSM is just a miracle to me!! I have been taking since June and as well as much softer new growth I no longer have to wear my wrist brace(tendonitis) or use ANY allergy meds. I will take MSM powder for the rest of my life!!! Oh yea, I take about 3600 mg which is a full teaspoon of Now brand. :)

Good for you! I didn't like the required dosage a few months ago when I tried. I was taking the GNC Pill version, and a dosage was 2000mg a day (2pills). It made me get headaches and I had very bad breaks outs! Mid December (i beleive) I strated taken GNC UltraNourishHair Vits, it has MSM in it but only 500mg. So far, I can say I am happy! I beleive can only handle a smigit of MSM but I like the results it given me. I used to have numbness in my arms or legs at night, but I haven't since I have been taking these Vits. I am sure its the MSM thats in it.

Birth defects? I had no clue it could do that! ....Please collaborate on that part. I don't have any kids yet, and don't want to jack up my chances of conception:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:.

I don't think MSM has any history of birth defects. I think she's just afraid it will because it made her periods harder. When I was taking too much MSM made mine harder too.

The MSM I take is inside of a Hair, Skin, and Nail supplement by Andrew Lessman and it has 500 mgs in it. Started taking it in early November.

I haven't really noticed anything different with my skin, but the supplement has definitely done something to my nails and hair (still waiting for the skin benefits to kick in) :). He has two types, the one I have is with the CoQ-10 in it. He also sells them on HSN.com (I'm not sure if HSN will continue to carry the coq-10 one for long, because it was an anniversary special, but they sell the original). The CoQ-10 one has a sulphur smell to it :perplexed.

I'm so glad this worked for you:) I've been taking Puritian's Pride 3000 mg since 9/1/2005. Like others, I've been on prescription meds for allergies for many years, including eating a hefty dose of Benedryl every year:lol: For the first time in my life, I didn't finsh my Benedryl - it's now expired!
The hair is also much easier to deal with. If it continues to behave this good, I'm just gonna relax the nape - it refuses to behave like good hair!!!

I can tell when I don't take my dosage. I did as the instructions stated. Started out at 1/4 tsp and now at 1 1/4 tsp. I will stop at 2 tbs. Then back down to a tsp.

So far nothing but good things to report. I did slack off for 6 weeks and my aches came back with a venegance. But now its no pain.

One of the greatest things that I have learned form LHCF.

I usually mix it in with my carrot, apple and ginger juice blend. if i'm too lazy to juice, then i'll throw it in bottled orange juice, or grape juice.

The KAL brand says 5 grams per spoonful. so, i guess i'm taking anywhere from 5 - 8 grams daily.

when i began taking MSM, it laid me OUT. seriously! i had to call out sick from the headaches. i would say the headaches last approx 3 days for me. but it was soo worth it.

:)

Having lupus, i get joint aches but i have to admit that MSM has done nothing for the pain, for me.

i'm not disappointed though... i just happy about my hair and skin

In my household, MSM has:

1. Made my nails grow
2. Help my other half deal with arthritis
3. Tamed my NG
3. Topically healed cuts/scrapes
4. Helped w/energy
5. Minimized the use of inhalers/allergy meds

Yes I am singing praises but I cant lie on the truth...can I!

It seems those of you have been taking it for at least 3 months reap these good results from taking it ! The longest that I have taken it was for i'd say about 10 weeks. Before, it use to make my new growth grow in really coarse, and I saw no difference in my nails. Right now I started taking it again for like the 4th time, but this time I am taking it along with Freeda biotin. I am going ot try my best and stick it out for at least 3 months to see if I note any changes in my body. Besides skin and hair, I'd like MSM to help my with the toxins in my body. I see it's helping members with allergies and making some have more regular bowel movements.. I'd love to have those results, but I guess that comes with long term usage. I am committed to taking it for at least 3 months to really see how my body reacts to it.
Keep the MSM stories coming !!!

This is a great thread. MSM really scared me because of all the side effects people seemed to be suffering. The only supplement I take besides a multi is biotin 5 mg, which worked wonders for me. I'm thinking if I start really slow, maybe 1/4 tsp of MSM for a few weeks and work my way up then it might work out. I'm really hoping it will help with my weak right knee. Hmmmm...I'll have to think on this one. Thanks ladies!

Good for you D. I have been taking MSM in pill form by NOW for a lil over a month now. I started out with one pill/1000mg, gradually went up to two pills/2000mg and now I'm at three pills/3000mg.
I haven't noticed anything outside of vivid dreams and my menses being very late by three weeks. I was hoping it disappeared for life:lachen:

I hope MSM finally starts assisting my joint/arthritis pain because that was my reason for taking it. I hope to see significant result by the end of Febuary in whatever form hair, skin, pain etc.

MSM has been great for me too. In addition to other benefits, I'm 13 months post relaxer, and me & my new growth are getting along just fine. It's so soft and easy to detangle.

Thanks so much;) for posting this about the new Hair, skin and nails with CoQ-10!!!! Because rightnow I take both seperate by Andrew Lessman and that would be great for me to take two pills instead of four pills!!!!

Hi gelati :)
I believe there's only 20 mgs of Coq-10 in it, so if you need more, I supplement with an additional 30 mgs from Vitacost.com which is pure like Andrews, in capsule form, and is a really good price (240 30 mg caps. for around $14 plus $4.99 s/h). :)

That birth defect comment scared me too, so I did some research and this is the closest report that I could find on the subjects, and its not definitive.

Goldstein P, Magnano L, Rojo J. Effects of dimethyl sulfone (DMSO2) on early gametogenesis in Caenorhabditis elegans: ultrastructural aberrations and loss of synaptonemal complexes from pachytene nuclei. Reprod Toxicol 1992; 6:149–59.
Concern has been raised based on the results of this in vitro study, which found meiosis was interrupted in early gametogenesis in the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans is a small (about 1 millimeter), primitive worm that shares certain essential biological characteristics with humans (e.g., it produces sperm and eggs, reproduces, has a nervous system, etc.). Its short lifespan, rapid development, and easy cultivation under controlled conditions make it a favorite of research scientists as a model for toxicologic assays.) when it was grown in concentrations of MSM exceeding 1%. Increasing concentrations of MSM impaired the fecundity and viability of treated worms. This study is actually attempting to suggest the possibility of a teratogenic effect. However, more definitive research has shown no teratogenic effects or developmental toxicity.
