My mother said...

That cholesterol is not good for black hair. I gave her some SE Cholesterol (i know I am spelling this wrong) a while back. I asked her if she used it and she said no. Her reason was that years back she heard that cholesterol can explode the hair shaft :nono:. Anybody else hear of anything like this? May be this was way back in the day- she's a beautiful 50ish, but I can't imagine this being true if so many people use.

Explode the hair shaft? So if we use cholesterol our hair will spontaneously combust :lachen: I've never heard that before. My mom always told me cholesterol was good for the hair.

I never heard of cholesterol having any negative effects on hair. As a kid, my mother used it on my hair and there were no negative results.

Exploding Hairshaft? c'mon now

Bless her heart but thats just some old school mythology. I use my Lekair + 30minutes of heat faithfully and for me its one of the best DC's out there, been using it since I was a little kid:yep:

If anything, I would say it explodes moisture into the hairshaft:look:.........:lachen:

I know I was like hunh?!? when she said it too. I tried googling and came up empty too. But hey, at one point many of use were told misinformation about hair care.

I'm not sure on the exploding part, but I have always wondered as to why it's so cheap...seems strange to me.

Shhhhh!!!! I love my cheap cholesterols and we don't need to give them ANY reason to jack up the prices! LOL.

no offense this post made me  as in : I can imagine the girl putting the cholesterol on her hair then she starts hearing *pop POP pop POP POP* omg hair shafts explosions!

im just being silly tonight lol

She is probably confusing cholesterol as we think of it (bacon fat and artery clogging foods etc) with hair cholesterol.

People have always used mayonnaise (which is cholesterol) as a cheap method to restore curls and moisture and reduce frizz in hair. It makes our cell walls impermeable, so I'm assuming that it locks the moisture in the hair shaft and helps to retain it there which causes us to have more manageable and moisturized hair. Overmoisturized hair might be detrimental to your hair, but cholesterol is not.

:giggle:..........

I don't know about it exploding but I know my hair hates it. I don't care what brand I use, it just doesn't do anything for my hair.

Never heard of that, but I think when your mom says explode hair shaft it may mean those split ends that come in the middle of the hair shaft.
