Hi ladies:

Don't know if you all remember me. :) I had to take a well deserved hair boards hiatus a few months ago, but it hit me on Monday that on March 25, I made one year fully natural.

My routine has become so simple (or I've been so lazy), that I had to rush to throw a few "one year" anniversary pictures in my photo album. I have been able to read through a few threads on here and I thought I'd just come and update you on my random thoughts as a new natural:

First, I really have to thank all the posters on the various hair boards of which I have been a member, including LHCF. I KNOW that the only reason my journey has been pretty painless is because of all the helpful advice, support, and encouragement I have received from natural, transitioning, and relaxed heads alike.

Second, I REALLY love being natural . FOR ME, it was the right decision. Unlike some on this board, I didn't join because I had damaged relaxed hair--I had already decided to transition, and was looking for more information about moving from relaxed to natural hair. I really had no issue with my relaxed hair--it's just that I wanted to have more options, get off of the beauty salon merry-go-round, and I wanted to experience my natural texture. I really didn't expect to have the--fun and pleasure--I have with my natural hair. And I LOVE being able to create good hair days all on my own.

Since this is the LHCF, here are my year stats:
Starting length (at the BC): about 5"
Current length: 10" (one trim)
Hair type: Kinky, curly. Straighter up front, curlier in the back.
Usual style: Afro puff, ponytails, two-strand twists, shake and go.
Protective routine: I leave my hair braided, twisted, or banded whenever I can--detangling, bedtime, naptime, working out, lounging around. Banding my hair shows about 30% additional length.

What I've learned in my first year:
-Natural hair is not synonymous with unmanageable hair
-People I've encountered are really positive about my hair
-I have not once felt like my hair was a hindrance to my career or personal life
-A protective routine is my friend, and makes my life a WHOLE lot easier
-KISS--a simple routine is best for my hair
-My hair seems to grow fastest in the fall/winter , but it grows slower than average
-I'm just as lazy with natural hair as I was with relaxed hair.

Happy hair growing ladies!
:dance7:
