I said real because I once had this mimicked at an AA salon. But yesterday I walked in a real Dominican shop with my own poo, cond, and leave ins in the dirty south! I'm 11 wks post, and I will admit that I was a little nervous about how my hair would be handled. Overall, the poo girl was gentle and careful when trying to detangle it. She put my cond on and sat me under the dryer for about 15 min. She then proceeded to add my rinse, not really working in through enough with her fingers. To me she did not use enough cond. She tempted to comb it with a wide tooth comb but it would not budge. So she just raked over the top and rinsed it out. She towel dried it and sat me up. That was a no no, because I knew I had to get all of these tangles out my hair. I slapped a handful of the rinse cond on my hair and proceeded to work it through with my fingers while waitng for my time to get rolled. She just smiled nicely at me. The lady that did all of the rolling signaled for me and but I let her know that I needed to be rinsed again since it was so tangled. She proceeded to rinse and comb at the same time. She added more rinse and maybe even something she had. The detangles melted. I will say that Silicon Mix is their staple, because all of the heads was getting this. She asked if I had my leave ins Mami. I handed her two Dominican leave ins. She mixed them together and worked them through my hair. She rolled me ( up with purple rollers not down) and I was under the dryer for little more than an hour. Now the torture began! That's the hottest dang dryer that has EVER touched my head. I literally cringed the entire while she was blowing my hair. I could not believe the heat. How in the world do you ladies get this done weekly? I offered her my chi silk infusion as a heat protectant, but she did not want to apply it until after she finished blowdrying. After she was done, she applied a little throughout on my scalp. Well, needless to say you all know that I left there with bouncy hair swinging in the wind. My hair is so light and really looks like a got a relaxer. I loved the end results and the fact that I can bring my own products. I will definitely be going again. I was going to get my relaxer on the 20th at 12 wks, but that is definitely out now. I've got to let my poor old scalp heal. I plan to wear my hair down until Sunday after church and then poo, deep cond , and my normal stuff. Who knows, I may push this out for a week. We will see. I plan to upload a couple more pics later today showing the day after but check my fotki out for actual pics yesterday.

I am so glad that you spoke up and had them do things the way you wanted them to. I have seen some get attitudes at being given direction, but I'm glad that they were nice and accomodated what you wanted. I will be sure to check your fotki for your results :)

Thanks Energist! I have learned from the best - LHCF. My days of sitting in a stylist chair and letting them do what they want is long over. I know my hair and I know what works for me. I understand that they have only been open for about 6 months, so they are in the drumming up business stage.

It came out great!!!!!...

LOL....... you were so smooth how you handled to tangle situation....U just added more rinse conditioner and started working with fingers.........I'm praying for tactfulness and grace....

When the time comes, you will handle it. We work too hard around here to let one visit jack out hair up. Your hair is pretty. Thanks!

Glad you enjoyed it but I'm not happy with the Chi AFTER the blow drying (like I got something to say about how YOU do your hair right LOL) I don't get putting on a heat protectant AFTER the heat has been applied.

If you don't care about heat damage then cool if you do, then those hot blow dryers will give you a one way ticket to heat damageville. Growing out the damage now.

Just lovely Janeemat! I remember when you posted your May photos in your Fotki. Look how much you've grown! Time to update your comparison album. Great progress girlie. :yep:

I know right? That's what I was thinking. I did use Mizani Therma Strength for my rollerset along with my leave ins, so I was not too concern. As far as blowdryers, I ditched mine in 2005. This blow out was a special rarety for me because I am a rollersetting queen. I don't even flat iron my roots.

I hear ya with the blow dryer. Consider this though, a one time excessive heat can permanently cause heat damage to the hair.

But congrats on your no heat to low heat regimen. Do you find that it contributes to your hair's length and moisture retention?

I think it's a combination of things that contributed to my length over the past year. The key thing for me was stretching relaxers (12-14wks). This has allowed my hair to thicken and gain length. I contribute the moisture retention to rollersetting and adding leave ins. My hair always feels very soft and moisturized after removing my rollers.
