My First Puff!!!

Before a few days ago all I could do is twist my hair and re-twist every 2-3 days to keep it looking "fresh". I was getting frustrated because I don't know how to cornrow for a braid out and I was really thinking about getting some micros back in to keep the manipulation down. Then I came across a how-to video on youtube for a puff...I didn't think my hair was long enough for a puff but I tried it anyway.

How do I get the edges to stay down though?????? Anybody???

U use Ecostyler gel or a gel of your choosing, and a scarf. just smooth the gel onto hair edges (brush if needed, but try smoothing with your hands first), then tie down with a scarf for a minimum of 15 minutes to set.

ETA: I find it easier to do this on damp hair. Try both ways to find out what work best for you.

yayy! i do puffs everyday. for a month or two, i slept in them (i'm really lazy when it comes to hair and i refused to braid my hair every night but now i do it b/c there was too much breakage before)

i agree with the above poster. ecostyler works. not on me though because i have some odd edges. ever since i was a child.

Oooooooh Girl! Thank you! I've been running around looking too crazy! Thank you sooo much!!!

I have som IC Fantasica Gel...Hopefully that will work.

Thank you so much!

I do, too! I spritz and put a baggy cap over the puff, a satin scarf around the edges, and throw a satin sleep cap over the whole thing...hair is ready to roll in the morning.

ETA: I cowash every 2-3 days, so that's the longest it'll be up like that at a time. Saves on gel too.

I would say .. don't use a hard brush. Use a soft boar bristle brush. Get it as flat as you can and then tie the scarf down tightly [but not uncomfortably so or so that it's pulling].

That is a huge pony puff. And not just a pushed back puff but a real honest-to-goodness MizzBrit sorta puff! Very nice!

Chile, whatchu talkin' bout making the edges stay down? I think it looks fine just the way it is and it's how I like my edges to look.

I think many people use gel and a scarf but I hate looking like I'm wearing a helmet. I prefer the more natural, softer look.

awww! Where do you get elastics like that to make a puff! I live in canada so I have to hunt online for almost all of my black hair care products. The stuff up here is either at a natural health store or is full of bad ingredients.

CVS Pharmacy sells them.

Girl, if your edges aren't laid down, then I don't what is! They look great! I've started spritzing my hair a little then putting ORS Twist and Lock Gel on the edges, then doing the scarf thing for 15 mins like the others have suggested. Works like a charm.

I like the ORS gel because it give ridiculous hold, but doesn't harden at all. It's actually very moisturizing.

I don't like that ORS twist and lock - I used it when I had my twists put in and there were flakes everywhere - it sucked.

Moopeh - I just used a head band that i've had for at least 3 years and never used it until now. It was just a thin, crappy head band - But Noni was right, you can get them at CVS and they come in packs. You can get like 5 for a few bucks.

I tried something new with the puffs. I used a Liquid Leave-in (giovani vitapro) and Eco Styler (MY New Best Friend) and let all my defined curls run wild then tamed them with the head band - Soooooo Cute!!!

I'd post pics but the board is trippin ad won't let me do it...

But there are pics in ma Fotki :)
