For the past 6 months I've been retaining length well and have had no splits; my hair is usually splits city. I stopped being lazy and began to really baby my ends after I had to cut off at least 4 inches of growth mid-January because of using heat around the holidays and not protecting my ends daily. Now, I coat them daily with HE LTR and castor oil. I have had no splits and therefore no needs for trims. I have managed to grow back all the hair I cut and some more.
I've been doing braidouts daily or wear my hair curly after doing a Cowash with Pantene R&N and leaving it in. Afterwards, I coat with HE LTR all over, and then seal ends and scalp with castor oil. My hair stays moist all day, has amazing slip and smoothness. I realized that my hair is so bouncy and moist and straight at the root, that what if I blow dried my hair on low in this state and stretched it a bit and then flat ironed, possibly retaining the slip, moisture and smoothness... Other than that, I do an ayurvedic rinse twice weekly, DC twice weekly, and porosity control once a week, and Shikakai bar cleanse every other week... that's it! Lovin my new KISS regimen!
So I got a RUSK flat iron after the great reviews of it, and my CHI is now my backup iron. This rusk is amazing, it's 100 percent ceramic and just loverly... I used my CHI blow dryer on low to obtain my results...
So this is what I did:
I did this process of braiding my hair the night before with the leave-in condishes and castor oil... The next day I put some Sabino Moisture Block all over, focusing on ends and began to take each braid that was still damp and blow dry it on low, alternating between that and cold shot. Once they were 80 percent dry, I took each braid loose and tension dried it pulling it straight out from the head on low. The Sabino helped my hair to already be pretty much straight from that point (BTW, I'm a 3c/4a/b natural??)... This NEVER happens...
After drying each section about 90 percent dry, they were still moist but not terribly damp. I then took the flat iron and went over each section twice.... Check out my pic below... The first is when I completed half of my head... My hair was almost bone straight... I was glad to see it grew back, but is healthy and my ends are great! I will do this method from now on when I straighten, which is only about once every 4 months or less.... I think it is very much like the method where people flat iron their hair wet. I tried that and it didn't work for me, and so I tailored it a bit, and this TOTALLY worked! Thanks for the idea, ladies!
Let me know your thoughts or questions! Sorry the pics are so big! Oh and I'm not preggers, although I looked it. Major bloating that day!
Here are the pics in order... Sorry I coudln't figure out how to get them in the body of this post...
A.Before blowdry
B. One side complete... Look at that straight silkiness.. It was so moist, I couldn't believe it! As you will notice, I haven't retained much length in a year due to a couple of setbacks, but I'm definitely on the way now that I've figured a few things out!
C. The back now complete
D. Complete... It was hot in here and even with the Sabino, I was already getting some shrinkage, but I was still happy with it. I look at this pic and think wow, when all of that hair grows down my back I'll have a huge head of hair! Can't wait!
E.Pinned up top and down in teh back... I'm so happy to see my hair hang down past my shoulders without my scrunching my neck... Exhilarating!
Thanks for stoppin by and checkin me out!
