My 4b Edges DON'T match my 3c hair!!!

My hair is like this but I don't mind.

But when I do need my edges to lay down and blend in with the rest of my 4a hair, Ecostyler or Kinky Curly Custard work.

I did comtemplate using henna to straighten my edges, but naw. It wasn't that serious for me...

my edges used to be really kinky, like no different to my type 4 hair. I just couldn't get them to lay flat for love nor money. recently however (like the last couple years) they seem to be getting finer like the hairs on my arm but longer. I do brush them a lot with a soft brush, maybe they are becoming trained.

My hair is the exact same way! Type 3 all over but 4a/b at my edges. Wash and goes were very difficult in the beginning, but length has helped a lot. It was the reason why I did a big cut last year--my nape hangs so much (3a/3b) that I looked like I had a tail lol. What's extra frustrating is that my edges are 4a/b, but right next to it my hair is very wavy, doesn't curl at all (I'm starting to think it may be type 2). It makes it look like I have chronic heat damage if I don't style it just so. My crown is 3a/b and the rest is 3c.

In the front, my edges are 4b and then it becomes 4a behind it and as you move upward. My front hair is 4a that barely shrinks and the back half is 3c. This ended up working well with WnG. When my hair was shorter, it looked like I had my sides cut shorter. As my hair grew, the front covered the sides.

The only issue is it makes my hair look puffy when it is down. Because it grows up and then down, it pushes out my hair and makes it look fuller than other parts of my hair. It is not the worst thing so I manage it.

I have this to deal with all the time. the majority of my hair is 3b/3c and then my edges are 4b. I usually stretch my hair to create a wavier style and then on my edges i basically do mini twists. It doesn't blend it but at least it's not a fluff ball anymore. I flat twist when I feel lazy.

My nape is more 3a-ish so wash n goes look dumb as hayle. They hang longer than the rest of my hair! So I just dont do wash n goes.

ETA: thats not true. I wear wash n goes. I just cant do it if my hair isnt allowed to frizz up in the back

Geez girl! You got some of everything!!

I have this type of hair. My mother always tells me that the nape of my hair should have been my front hairline. I am natural as well. I have tried it all but in the end, I think when it gets longer it will be easy to smooth it down. I had light breakage in the area from braiding and trying to use mild perms to smooth the hair down. It's really a challenge when styling because it's so different from the rest of my hair.

Funny, how when you catch an old post you are horrified you didn't take your own advice and that was in 2009. Since then I thought I'd remedy the situation with a relaxer and I actually realised it was the worse mistake. Now transitioning and wearing braids except this time I am not wearing small or over large braids or cornrows, taking rest breaks in between braiding, using copious amounts of protein and blow drying my hair straight before getting my hair braided.

Best,
Almond Eyes
