Must Pre-Poo Oils Be Hot?

Hi ladies, I will be doing a pre-treatment shampoo tomorrow and am planning to use some of my left over Doo gro growth oil. It says it can be used for hot oil treatments but doesnt say that you must heat it up, but only that you should cover your hair with a plastic cap. Is the heat from the plastic cup suffice or should I heat it up slightly? Also, it says that you should leave it on for 5-15 minutes, is it ok for me to leave it on for longer (hours-overnight), or is this only for the natural oils like Olive oil? Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

i usually heat- up my pre-shampoo oil treatments- you can either run hot water in the sink a place a plastic bottle of oil in there for a few minutes or heat a plastic bottle of oil in the microwave for 1 minute. Best of luck to you

I always heat my oil treatments.

I use my Mastex heat cap for 30 mins. Otherwise, if you don't heat it, it's kind of just like when you put oil in your hair every day... I think you need the heat to help it penetrate the hair shaft more.

Vev (I think) says you shouldn't heat Flax oil (loses its properties), but when I tried it for the first time yesterday, I applied it room temp. and then when under my bonnet dryer for an hour.

When I use EVOO, I heat it in the microwave for 20-25 seconds.

In the past, I didn't always heat the oils beforehand. I applied them straight from the bottle to my head, but I did sit under the hooded dryer for a little while to heat them up.

I tried heating up EVOO and other treatments in the past, but I can't figure out how I'm supposed to pour hot oil on my head!? Maybe I'll ask my SO to help me. It works better hot but I burn my scalp or have problems applying it b/c it's hot! It works better w/hot oil, even though I do sit under the heating cap.

It doesn't have to be HOT while you're applying it!!

Just heat it to where it feels nice and warm on your scalp, then get under the heating cap.

Right, that's what I do. I never heat it up enough to actually be hot

I heat my oils, by first boiling water in a small saucepan....while I'm waiting for the water to boil, I pour my oils and honey in a glass. After the water boils, I remove the pan from the heat and set the glass of oil in the water for about 5 minutes or so. Nice and warm...

I apply the oils by pouring them in my hand first and then applying to my hair.

I don't know if this is the most efficient method or not, but it gets the job done.

I like to place a plastic bag on my hair and sit under the dryer for about 5 minutes to allow the oils to penetrate.
