MTG or Mega Tek??

I am considering using one of these products but wanted to know which one you recommend. What are the difference and how do you use them? I am currently doing protective styling with cornrows under wig caps. Would I be able to use either of these products?

I used/use MegaTek because it's creamy, spreads well and has a soft coconutty smell that is quite pleasant. It doesn't run and doesn't stain clothing or sheets. All things I have heard MTG doesn't have/does do.

I have used both and I would definitely go for the mega tek. The MTG smells bad and is oily and gritty

I have the Mega Tek and like it a lot. I've had the same bottle for the longest time as I used it in a growth mix of MN (miconazole nitrate) and hydrocortisone and cayenne pepper.

A lot of people on the boards are making their own more pleasant smelling sulfur mixes rather than using MTG if smell is a concern. Flowers of sulfer can be purchased at the pharmacy counter (no prescription needed) at walmart. I put a tablespoon in the bottom of my Jamaican Mango & Lime Island oil (great ingredients) and it doesn't smell half bad. A little goes a long way.

Right now I'm alternating between the two mixes after cowashes.

ITA: My bottle of Jamaican Mango & Lime is awesome with a great scent, fab ingredients (the first one is castor oil) and it's downright for my hair. However, as I went to pick up a couple bottles today I can see that the newest formulation includes a number one ingredient of mineral oil which, of course, is absent in the original formula Why do they do this?! Anyhow, I stood there for an hour sniffing and reading ingredients until I found an oil I think is worth mentioning. It's called Honey Almond Braid oil and the ingredients are as follows: avocado oil, almond oil, honey oil, tocopherol (vitamin E). sesame oil, coconut oil, isoprpyl mystrate and jojoba oil

The smell is and I think I will mix it with either plain or jamaican black castor oil for future growth mixes.

I've used both and I prefer the MTG since megatek ain't nothing but a conditioner. I use a oil by Softee over the mtg to cover up the smell on my daughter's hair.

Mega-Tek all the way for me.... I have had great success with it. I will be posting a 6 month pic in October... I am on my second bottle since starting at the end of March.

Well I used MT and i got some growth thats closed up my bald spots, I just purchased 2 bottle of MTG today for 26 dollars at the horse store, the sales lady stated that MTG was better then MT . a lot of people was buying MTG for hair growth then MT. I will tried it for three month and let you know.

I just bought a big ole bottle of MTG also from the horse store for cheap. I have GOTS to do something about that smell. I mean, that just don't make no kinda sense.

But I've got a plan. I'm going to pour off much of the Cade oil and fill the bottle up with a mix of this lovely scented (strongly scented) braid oil that I have; and fill it the rest of the way with castor oil and hopefully make it tolerable.

I just have to figure out where I can pour out this oil that won't cause a scene. Cause that stuff is crazy!!

What I really like about MTG over MT (I actually use both) is that a dab really will do ya. Just a dollop of the stuff, really, on the sink is all I need to dip my finger in and do my whole head every morning. I really love that.

What do you guys think? What is it about MTG that makes it any more effective than mixing sulfur powder into your own oils?

Which grows more hair faster?

Girlfriend, who knows! I've been using a MT and MN mixture at night and a homemade sulfur oil in the morning and have had great results. I went to the horse store hoping to find more MT. They didn't have it, but they did have MTG.. but hey, it was cheap and I have PJ tendencies . So I bought it and used it... once! The smell was too awful for me to tolerate more than that.

I literally just came back in the house from pouring out the oil that sits on top and mixed the left over powder with some oils in my stash. Hopefully it will improve the smell enough that I'll add it to my rotation. But I don't use any one growth aid by itself so I really couldn't say what works best. I'm sorry CurlyMoo.

This was the first time I'd straightened my hair in ages and found that my hair was LOADED with single strand knots. Like the bottom 1.5 inches had to come off evenly all over my head. This was 5/09

The next pic was done on my bday weekend. After a summer of daily cowashing and just about every growth aide known to man.. lol. It was Sep 25 (so about 5 months)

I promise those ends are not damaged. I didn't brush well, apparently but they are healthy and knot free. Not spectacular growth I don't guess, but I'm happy, none the less. This is the longest my hair has ever been. Can't wait to get to BSL in a little while.

I'll continue to use every growth aide known to man and will not know what worked. I will, however, have some rockin hair hahaha

My cousin uses MTG with great results. She called Shapleys to inquire about the smell and was told that the odor was from the cade oil. She asked if there was anyway to get it with the cade oil omitted, but they said that it would not be as effective. Here are the benefits of the stinky stuff.

CADE OIL (NATURAL)


Description: A large evergreen shrub up to 4 metres high, with long dark needles and brownish-black berries about the size of hazelnuts.

The crude oil or tar is obtained by destructive distillation from the branches and heartwood (usually in the form of shavings or chips). A rectified oil is produced from the crude by steam or vacuum distillation. In addition, an oil is occasionally produced from the berries by steam distillationThe rectified oil is an orange-brown, oily liquid with a woody, smoky, leather like odour. It blends well with thyme, origanum, clove, cassia, tea tree, pine and medicinal-type bases.

I just put some on my hair tonight and it sme like leather like odur like you said, so I will see tomorrow if I still smell it, I have a leave I used eveyday , and sice I wearing phony pny should mnot be a problem. I think it smell better then sulfur and Alma oil . I always have to mixed it with something.
