I WAS CURIOUS IF ANY OF YOU LADIES WERE ALLOWED TO TAKE MSM WHILE YOU WERE PREGNANT OR BREASTFEEDING? ALL THE RESEARCH THAT I'VE DONE SAYS THAT IT IS AS SAFE AS WATER ETC. DOES ANY ONE HAVE ANY INFO ABOUT THIS? I JUST GOT OFF THE PHONE WITH MY PEDIATRIC NURSE AND SHE NEVER HEARD OF IT.

Exactly..you should ask your OBY/GYN maybe she could look it up or ask the Pedeatrician. You can definitely keep taking your PreNatals.. but I would not take anything else until you get it approved first..

I read that it's ok to take MSM during pregnancy if you were already taking it before you got pregnant, but that you shouldn't start taking it after you've become pregnant because it detoxifies the system and can make the baby seems as though it's foreign to your system. I also read that taking MSM can make it harder to conceive...but like everyone else said, check with your Dr. first.

THANKS - I ALSO CALLED THE OB/GYN AND THEY WERE NOT FAMILIAR WITH MSM EITHER.

THEY SAID TO CHECK THE BOTTLE. CAN SOMEONE TELL ME IF IT SAYS ANYTHING ABOUT THIS ON THEIR BOTTLE?

I asked my OB/GYN friend about it when I was pregnant and he was going to look it up for me. Before he did, I looked it up in the Physician's Desk reference which is online. It didn't have much to say about whether to take it or not but it did recommend nursing and pregnant women NOT take it. What I found most interesting was that MSM was the *cousin* of another drug/supplement. I checked out the *cousin* and it was a definite no-no during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Don't chance it. Wait until after your baby's done. Your hair isn't worth the risk to your baby.

Kitcat I found this info:

22. Can I take MSM while breast feeding?

Breast milk is a good source of MSM, so it is not a foreign substance. Only food. There are some doctors who will advise against you taking MSM while breast feeding because they are uncertain of MSM and are cautious about everything. There are some doctors who will tell you it won't hurt your child. Your child's hair and nails will grow and become healthier, their immune system will be much stronger. If it seems to present a problem just discontinue taking it until after breast feeding. If concerned always check with your healthcare professional. MSM itself is not harmful, but the toxins flowing through the system can be too strong for an infant since they are flushing out at a rapid rate. So always check with your doctor before taking.
