Ladies:

I am trying to decide what my next hair move will be when I take my braids out. I don't plan to go natural, and am weighing whether to start texturizing. Since I can't relax right after removing the braids, I want to play with a few "natural" styles (I don't want to put heat on my hair after removing the braids).

I want to know your feedback on Ms. Jessie's Curly Pudding and Curly Buttercreme/Baby Buttercreme. I have type 4a/b hair, and want to know whether it is worth the money. Those of you with type 4 hair (especially 4b's), I would like to know if you have tried either one or both of the products, and if you found it did the job.

Also, is there a way to get samples (free or for lower costs) to test out the product before giving $80 away? Thanks!

P.S. I haven't had a relaxer since March, so I will have close to 8 months of new growth when I remove these braids!

I use Curly Pudding and Curly Buttercreme and so far, its the only thing I've found that enhances my curls, cuts down on frizz and is heavy enough to control "pouf" without giving me the crunchy wet-hair look I used to get from gel. Its great because now I "shingle" Curly Pudding on and let my hair air dry, I don't use a hooded/bonnet dryer at all and its still works great!

I use the buttercreme when my hair is...out of sorts, I use it to "slick" my hairline down, again - another gel free option, gives me some moisture without the snap and crackle of gel (I worry that gel will dry me out.)

So far, I'm happy with the Miss Jessie line.

The pudding did not work for me. I think this was because I did not do the shingling yechnique correctly. However, my mother uses it and really likes it so I guess you would just have to give it a try and see how you like it. I can send you like 2 or 4 oz if you want just pm me and let me know. I also did not like the strong grape bubblegum scent. I tried the buttercreme and that was nice, but not worth the money spent for it. I use my whipped shea butter and get good results for less than half the price. HTH good luck!

i use tbhe curly pudding and i like it alot....i havent even tried any other product b/c i have been wearing braids and weaves for months..i am just startting to deal with my natural text.
anyhoo..the crly pdng, works on defining my curls better but at the top of my head by the bang area i have no curl def. my hair is super dense in that area and super cushy like a lamb...doesnt do anything for that hair up there...lol

I keep trying to use other products but none work as well. I think however some people expect it to curl any type of hair with little effort...It won't! My hair is 4a/3c and I don't shingle...I apply and keep it moving. Eventhough I'm sporting the "Heat Miser" look this morning...I still have the curls from yesterday's application.

Buttercreme...love it ...Elasta Mango Butter...not even close!

So for me...Ms Jessie's all the way....But they need to do a price drop for loyal customers though? ;)

i know thats right jamerican girl...i went to sodafine the other day to pick some up amd i paid a heft 35 dollars for it...i was like man..i used to pay this amout to get a whole friggin hair do from the dominican palor...the price is just crazy...but it does last, i must say..

I am transitioning and currently wearing a wash and go style. The curly pudding works for me but recently discovered so does IC Fantasia gel with sprakelites. I get the exact same results and their first four ingredients are almost the same.

The butter creme does keep my new growth moist but I use it on my daughters hair more. It is the only thing I can put on her hair after I wash it and will keep her hair shinny and moist for days after. I guess I will purchase the baby buttercreme for her eventually....it is so pricey so I will have to find an alternative.

Did this stuff leave your hair feeling hard?

I haven't tried the products, but for great curl definition, I use curly custard. I have pics in my album showing the results of its use:)

I've tried the IC gel w/ sparkelites and i like it alot. I can sport a gorgeous wash n go style w. it. Too bad I can't do this in NY's cold cold winter. :ohwell: I'm a pj, however. Do u guys really think it is worth using for the price?

I haven't used miss jessie because of the price. I am too cheap to pay that much money for butter cream.

is it worth it? well, all's i can say is that is basically the only product i use on my hair..besides the other basics...im no pj so i figure, i only use this 1 product so that is how i rationalize paying 35 friggin bucks...

I say a big NO-NO to this product. As a natural it lessened the amt of my already non existent waves- shingling was a mess the product made itself known in my hair like old spritz or gel. I could've done better with just water and pomade than curly pudding. It was a waste for me-but dont take my word for it.

Well, I guess that tells me to stick w. IC gel w. Sparkelites. I can shingle without heat for 2.99. My wallet loves it and so does my hair. :)

I just reported on these products in the oct hits and misses.

What I will say if you have the $$$ to spend on baby butterceme I would highly recommend it. I will not have to buy another hair moisturizer for a long time--or experiment which would add up to the cost of baby buttercreme.

I used the meringue a few of times, the first time I really like it. The second time--I didn't get the same results. The next week I got my hair flat ironed and just used the buttercreme. This week I used it 2x with great results.

the curly pudding I used yesterday--and I really liked the results. I'm getting hightlights today so I probably won't use these products (except for the baby butterceme) for awhile.

Have you tried curly custard? I really love that product and I used it all summer. I bought these products out of curiousity.

I would try the fantasia gel everyone is raving about--but I was really happy with my curly pudding results. It's a 16oz jar so it will last and if it works for you--it will be the only product you'll need.

If you are curious and don't want to shell out money I would look on ebay and other hair boards for swaps.

BublnBrsgr put an alternative recipe on the recipe site that it JAMMIN'!
I haven't used the curly pudding, but heck...hers wokrs sooooo well ( a little heavy for my hair) but WHO CARES!!!!! It cost me all of6 bucks to make, and the key is to mix it up REAL good, an then after it cools (about 2 hours) put it in the Blender ( I have one just for products,...no food)
It's enough for me. However, before I saw her recipe, i did order some BBD Glass for curly hair.....let you know how it works!

Secret Squirrel

I went to Curves...BAD experience!
Aside from that- their products just arent worth it...My mom rcvd a Silkener(texturizer) and she even hates it now. Its very drying- which we all know is the worst for our hair let alone NATURAL hair.

My experience with their products:
Curly pudding- B/c my hair fine it was too heavy
B/c I color I found it to be VERY DRYING!!!

Butter Creme- Same results as Shea Butter and from what a freind of mine says the same CD Hair Mimosa(less expensive too)

BTW, my mom has extremely thick hair and deosnt like her hair to feel weighed down and that exactly what this does...

I realize I sound very nagative, but I had 4 inches cut at their salon (to give me shape)...And on natural hair(shrinkage)...I felt bald...But thanx to this forum- I will have it back in no time...I am a newbie but have been lurking for sometime...

Aside from my ranting.... I do hope that this helps....

Alternatives:
Lime and Mango "No Itch Gro Spray" (Great Moisture, defines curls too)
Elasta QP Mango Butter
Aussie 3 minute miracle (used as a leave in leaves me with amazing curly q's)
Africa's Best-KIDS ORGANICS shea moisturizer ***amazing definitin for curls, and SUPER MOISTURIZING!!!!

back at ya!

love your bangs,color.... I wore long bangs and phony pony last winter and loved it...

Your natural, how do you straighten your hair? I am looking for a way to go straight this winter with minimal damage...HELP!!!!!

:) CurlyJ Your hair color is really pretty- Do you color often? What do you use? Give me the inside scoop!

I've used Curly Pudding for awhile now, didn't like it at first but then I got the hang of it and it's the only product that I use. Now that it's getting cold, I whipped out the Buttercreme (which I've had for like ever) for some two strand twists. I placed a good amount in my hair on Sunday and it's now Thursday and I haven't had to add an additional moisturizer to my hair, it's still soft and moisturized. So I give the products two thumbs up.

girl, those are old pics...i need to update...that was relaxed hair...lol

I haven't got the "shingle method" thing down just yet...partly because of my short hair length. I think this product works better on longer hair. My hair is in the short phase now and I'm on jar #2 of curly pudding. My hair feels so dry after using it. The buttercreme is nice but you can really find a less exspensive product to give good moisture. Right now for me it's IC gel and palmers shaping wax. I use the pudding less and less.
