Movie about King David

I have just finished reading the Books of Samuel and I would like to watch a film about the life and battles of King David. I remember my husband renting a movie a few years ago that was either about him or loosely based around him. I remember there was some controversy about the film and the depiction of King Davids and Johnathan's relationship, but I never watched the entire movie. If anyone knows the name of the film could you please advise?
