More Texturizer Questions

As I have already said on this board, I am now texturized. I am naturally a type 4A and now with the texturizer, I look like a 3C with tight little curls all over my head. I am still getting accustomed to this, but so far, I am loving it. More than anything, I am loving seeing more of my length and experiencing less shrinkage. However, I do have some questions and issues.

1) What do you guys use to moisturize your hair? I am finding that my hair is a bit drier, so whenever I wash, I end up putting copious amounts of Nexxuss Humectress in my hair and putting it in twists to absorb. This really makes it extremely pliable and soft, but I'd rather get away from the whole twisting routine if possible. It helps define the new curls even more, but I'd like to be able to wash & go if possible, but I don't know what to use on my hair to get it to cooperate.

2) Curl defining and hold products. Is there anything that does not dry to a crisp out there? I dabbled with the Salon Selective Controlled Substance and it wasn't as bad as the IC Fantasia gel, but it still imparted a crispy feeling. I don't think anyone wants crispy hair, so is there anything that is curl defining, provides some hold and some moisturizing, but is NOT crunchy and crispy?

3) I am still trying to debate how frequently to texturize. So how frequently do you guys do it? I am still seeing that one small section of my hair is quite stubborn and could actually use another correction, but I am going to leave it alone for now.

4) I really don't think texturizers are the same as regular relaxers. I think they are formulated from the same chemicals, but texturizers HAVE to be a milder formulation over all. If I had used a conventional relaxer on my hair, my hair would be much straighter than it is now. But with the texturizer I used, it retains a lot of the natural texture. So my question is, does a texturizer have a maximum effect it will achieve and some how "time out," in a sense, or do you just have to leave it on longer to get relaxer-like results? I could see myself wanting to go from my curlies to more of a straighter curl-wave in the future. If I did this, would I have to re-texturize or re-relax all of my hair with a stronger formulation?

As for moisture and products - I don't really play in my hair much so I don't have a need for a lot of stuff. My wash-n-go regimen is simple:

Suave Humectant in the shower as a final conditioner/rinse - I shake my head up down and all around in the shower to let the curls clump. Then I rinse and while my hair is still dripping wet (I do sqeeze out the excess water though), I apply NTM Silk Touch Leave-In, then gobs of Blue Magic Curl Activator Gel and scrunch it in with my head upside down, and then up, and then apply some coconut oil the same way - then I let it dry naturally or under the dryer if I am pressed for time.

The gel sets it and the oil softens it. I go to sleep on a satin pillowcase - and somehow in the mornings the heat and moisture coming from my head seems to rehydrate it - when I wake up it is very soft and moisturized. This mix also seems to manage texturizer new growth very very very well - I'm starting to think it will work on natural hair!

As for texturizing, I'm aiming for every 3-4 months - and now with my curl mixture, I may be able to go even longer. I want to make sure I have a lot of new growth to work with to avoid overprocessing. I recently did a corrective and touchup in one - but I don't recommend doing that - make your correctives totally separate from your touchups or you'll be asking for trouble.

The longer you leave a texturizer on, the looser the curl will be - it will go from really curly, to less curly/wavy, to just plain frizzy, and then straight. I too may go to a looser look when I grow my hair long. Once you start with a mild formula, I would stick with that - going from mild to regular may lead to overprocessing - it's like 1+1=2, vs. 1+2=3, if this makes any sense.

Hope this helps. I am still learning how to deal with my texturized hair so my assistance is limited.
