Ok someone(hairlove I think) mentioned that hair cuttery has really cheap wash and sets. I figured out they are all over my area. I thought it sounded familiar, and figured out I saw one in the prestigious area of town where I work(Ive seen Tiger Woods around several times!). So Im thinking I would feel awkard(sp) to go in there for a wash and set because those white ppl would probably be looking at me like Ive lost my mind.

Should I just call around to different ones and ask if their stylists can handle black hair?

Ive had the experience of feeling like I was on Television before(when I went to a hair school to get my hair done once and everyone was crowding around watching them do my hair--I should have known better because I had to wait 4ever bc noone wanted to do my hair, I think they were afraid!) and dont want a repeat of that!

Or should I just not chance it and stick to regular black and dominican salons? BUT if it went well I could afford wash and sets more often....hmmm...what do u think?

Maybe you should call around and find out which ones have black stylist. I used to go to the Hair Cuttery two summers ago in Arlington, VA and an Ethiopian girl used to do my hair, she was really good. Wash and sets were like $13.

Based on that same thread, I got a wash and rollerset in my area -- called first to confirm price ($15)! and told them I was black -- no problem. I got my wash and set done by white lady who did a good job for the money -- well well worth it to me for the convenience. I am 4b and 6 weeks post relaxer so there's alot of new growth there and this white lady handled my hair just fine. But as with most things, it depends on the PERSON you get at these chain salons . . .

Dolce, I went to the one on South Cobb at:

2147 COBB DRIVE, SUITE D
SMYRNA, GA 30080
Phone (770) 432-9177

I saw other black ladies doing hair AND getting their hair done . . .

I love the Hair Cuttery and I go to the one on Thornton Rd. Can't beat $15-$18 for a wash & set and everyone that has done my hair was white. I just let them know that I am particular about my hair and questioned the products that they were using.

Can't support the Hair Cuttery. The ones near me are just terrible when it comes to black hair!!! I have walked into 3 seperate Hair Cutterys in my area and with each one, all the stylists looked at me like "I know she ain't walkin' up in here! I'm not doing her hair!" And sure enough, I would have to get the 'special' person who supposedly knew 'how to do black hair'. Of course, this durn expert would be using a thin tooth comb to try and comb out my wet hair!!! They weren't using the right curlers, nothing. Just total disasters. I always leave with a sore head and a style I hate!!!!

I went to the one in Arlington and a white guy did my hair. They use professional products on your hair and it went great. But yes it depends on the stylists you will find there.

I hate that you had such a bad experience. I have had to let them know what comb to use on my hair and what products I like. Blackhair is right - it depends on the stylist. They do use the best products and my sets have always been nice, soft and bouncy.

Natasha2005- where's Thornton Rd/what part of the city? (I'm still learning the areas) What products did they use for your hair?

TIA!

Dolce, hope you don't mind my answering . . . Thorton Road is in Lithia Springs, west of Atlanta (off I-20 West if coming from downtown). You can go to www.haircuttery.com and do a salon search with your zip code to find stores near you -- that's what I did and there are bunches of hair cuttery all over the atlanta metro area. I was surprised to find 4 of them within 5 miles of my home zip code . . .

Sounds like my experience except I had to wait about 30 min. for the black stylist to do my hair and I got charged more than anyone else for a cut/wash/bowdry/curl. Also, the black lady wasn't too hot anyway because she used this watery-sticky leave-in that made the blow out horrible (I was 8 weeks post relaxer and she made a comment about it). I got home and rewashed and styled it and I blowdryed it like nothing while this lady was struggling acting like it was my hair that made it hard when it was her STUPID *** product! Yeah, I'm still mad!

I've gotta get my pictures developed because I went out later that night and I looked FABU, the cut was on point though (China Bob with bangs)
