I was wondering if you ladies find that the more new growth you have, the less you are inclined to wash. My wash days are Wed and Sat. But since I'm now 8wks post, I think I might wash once a week (Sat) to cut down on the manipulation for the ng. It's a jungle in there, so the less I disturb it, I think the better we will get along. The only thing is, I like doing my deep cond twice a week. I'm scheduled to get a touch up on Sat, but I think that I'm going to cancel and stretch until 10 wks. It will be my first 10 wk stretch. What are you ladies doing different when you get quite a bit of ng.

I do that. But I think it is because I just don't want to be bother managing my new growth.... I usually end up forcing myself to wash so my pony tail don't look jacked up.

for me the longer I stretch, the more frequent I need to wash. I wash 2x a week.. and that keeps moisture in my new growth so that it can remain soft... however that's just me;)

Ditto, except I do co-washes. If I don't, I get dry, hard, crackling, SUPER matted down new growth! I co-wash 2-3 times a week. I experimented one time and combed my air-dried new growth (just a little!) and it was no where near as dry and matted as it was when I didn't co-wash.

I have been washing/deep conditioning more often. I'm not sure how or why, but at almost 8 months post relaxer, I can pretty easily run my fingers through all of my new growth <just did it, just to be truthful!> :yep:

There is a picture in my fotki (December pictures) of my new growth - let me tell you that NOTHING was getting through that. At that time I was washing my hair less frequently than I do now, and I hadn't figured out a regimen that worked for softening it up. OH, and I also started using S-curl at night, applied to my new growth, to keep it moisturized (that might be helping as well). :scratchch

I've learned how to wash and cowash my hair with less manipulation in the shower, which I think has helped with tangling issues. I used to gather all of my hair on the top of my head and really mix it up, thinking I was really cleaning.:nono: Well, no more of that. It all hangs down while I wash - slowly and gently applying pressure to massage my scalp, but I'm careful not to tangle. I don't use a comb of any sort in the shower - it just doesn't work for me. Kenra moisturing shampoo and conditioner are GREAT for my hair. I'm still experimenting with deep conditioners. Once I'm finished with my shower duties, I let my hair air dry almost 50%, add my (for now) CHI keratin mist, and with my wide-tooth comb, I comb through. This is better for me than combing through "towel-dried" hair (and I'm careful not to rub my hair or wring it in the towel - I just squeeze to get rid of the excess water. I do add leave-ins like NTM or Rusk, but I'm still experimenting - and I use a serum or oil to seal.

Once I'm all (95%) dry, which usually happens overnight after being tied down with a satin scarf, I'm usually able to work through ng with relative ease.

When I was deep in my stretch I used to love washing my hair. Maybe it was because it was the first time I was actually getting to know my natural hair texture. It does present a bit of a challenge though, but I enjoyed it. But then again, my hair isn't that long :o .......yet. :D

I'm 15 weeks post touchup and I actually upped my washings a few weeks ago from 1x per week to every 5 days. I also ALWAYS rollerset my hair and have no problem with breakage/demarcation line or tangling. I upped my washings because I only combed on wash day and I like to make sure my NG stays detangled and managable otherwise I will get knots. Plus the cold harsh weather and the rigors of indoor heating mean that my hair needs all the moisture/deep conditioning it can get.:yep:

It sounds like I better stick to my regimen of twice a week. I think my biggest problem is on Sat I always rollerset and then smooth each roller with my curling iron to tame the ng and have a smooth shiney look. Wed I only pull back in a pony tail, so the look is not that great. Like I said I do love my twice weekly deep cond, so I guess I'll just roll on.

I12, I checked out your Dec pics and boy the new growth! Keep up the good work girl.

Iwash 3 x per week anyway. I tried washing less with more NG but I found it to tangle worse without the frequent washings. Not to mention it gets all hard and dry. So to keep hair I keep washing frequently and putting scurl on the NG.

I haven't washed my hair in over a week and it's driving me nuts. :( I read the first post and started hearing, "It's like a jungle sometimes it makes me wonder how I keep from going under."

The temp has dropped and since I had my surgery I'm a little scared to wet my head.

But yes my hair loves to be washed and deep conditioned. Back in college I use to do it 2-3 times a week..... I was using all sorts of ungodly products in my hair.... the brown gel, the hairsprays, spritzes.... but because I washed and conditioned it often my hair was very healthy. Go fig.

I, almost, do the same thing. I'm just about ashame to say i just really learned how to wash my hair this year through trial and error. I used to wash my hair the same exact way. But now i find that if i don't tangle in the shampoo process the comb out is much easier after conditioning process. Sometimes i even comb my hair before i actually wash it.*I also discovered if i actually put myself physically inside the shower, the H2O flow will help the detangling process. And it is very important to be patient and take your time in the combing out process. Also i squeeze (gently) the excess H2O using my hands and i don't towel dry i drip dry. But it's a work in progress, you have shared good info., thanks! But back to the original thread, more i wash= more manageable new growth.:D
