More Lace Front Controversy

Crackers Phinn

Either A Blessing Or A Lesson.
So um erruh, has anybody here had any toxicity problems with using glue to apply their lace front?

I'm asking because I had just wrapped my mind around spending $400+ accessories on one of these bad boys when the current 'war of the boards' (LHCF wasn't involved) controversy broke out this weekend.

Apparently, someone on another board used glue with some chemical in it that threw off her period. I also read something about the glue causing blisters and sores along the hairline.

I'm asking for input HERE because I know that LHCF AIN'T PLAYIN when it comes to maintaining and upkeeping hair accessories/wigs. I don't know the folks on other boards so I can't gage how much of this is using incorrect products/incorrect removal of units.

BTW - can somebody just go ahead and give this thread one star so we can get that outta the way. :D

Lol. It was bad.

This is a good question. And also an important one, for anyone considering trying the L.F.

Looking forward to the responses!

Yeah, girl. I was sitting in the sidelines for the last battle and quite frankly, I'm tired of it. I say to do your research when it comes to the adhesives. I did hear the UH contained Toluene that had toxic effects, however, I use the cream adhesive from www.crownanglory.com and haven't had any problems.

Yeah, that was kind of wild. LHCF has had its share of drama, but I don't recall us ever having any spats like that.

Anyway, the toxic glue thing is scary, IMO. I don't wear wigs/weaves so I can't really say, but I would follow AJamericanDiva's advice and do plenty of research before investing in anything.

Nothing to add in regards to this topic but I just wanted to say... AjamericanDiva your baby's hair is just beautiful. I'm so jealous my little one won't let my do anything to his hair and we have to keep it cut to about a half an inch.

Okay, back to the topic...

its the Ultra Hold that causing the problems and Jamaican Diva is correct, and i love the baby gurl! and the drama is bad there, but there are good times too.. with the hair growth routine i suggest you order the units larger add on a inch to apply the unit in front of the hairline. there are other adhesives that don't cause these problems.

Whoa. I am considering getting a wig to protect my own hair also. Is there anything that will allow a two-week hold?

Or are there chemicals that will strip my skin off in the glue or be detrimental in some way?:perplexed

Just going to throw my 2 cents in...i think the glue is bad. The chemicals in most adhesives are bad and the fact that your pores are open and absorping the chemicals is even worse especially if you sweat easily or workout :( . I think the tape might be a little better but someone said there can be chemicals in that too. There are other options to using the glue like sewing the wig on (done by a professional of course) and using pins, wig clips, etc. There are some who apply the adhesive with a tooth picks and only strategically putting it in a few spots (which is better than slathering) and that might be a good option as well. I said in my review awhile back that i have a friend that went to Ga tech with me and is a polymer and fiber engineer. She works for an adhesive company here in atlanta and i showed her a bottle of the adhesive i had. She just shook her head and said "most of these ingredients are carcinogens". I havent touched the bottle since but to each his (her?) own. Lets just be educated about our choices

P.S. JCOILY - I put my 5 star vote in!

Well dang, where my nosey sistah's at??? Usually somebody run up in here and ask for details....but erbody quiet. So i'll ask... What board/thread are you referring to???

Side note: In addition to JC's topic, I also read some foolishness about people shaving their hairline so the wig could sit at a more natural point on their head.

That was just ridiculous.

Back on topic: The thing that is even more surprising is that people will continue using this product even if they KNOW it is the cause for missed periods or other harmful side effects. I'm glad that this board has the sensible view that hair is NOT worth losing your health over.

Mizani_Mrs, i think they are referring to BHM (black hair media)...good times and bad times on that site. Very informational about LF i might add.

Pretty in purple - Girl, i saw that too about people shaving back their hairlines too :ohwell: ... :ohwell: <--- Loss for words on that one

OMG, someone just posted on BHM that they had a seizure from combining adhesives. STOP THE MADNESS PEOPLE!!!! Its not worth it!! Not trying to start nothing with those who use it/those who dont, but please, i am worried about people using these products.

Oh my! That is crazy. I guess that goes to show that nothing is better than natural. Which bottle of glue did you purchase btw?

Ultra Hold came in the kit that i purchased.

*shakes head*

It's just scary though - and the thing that REALLY scaes me is - How many women actually KNOW that the adhesives might be harmful to your health?? I mean - I was looking at wigs for a while, and didn't even consider lacefronts (cuz I'm cheap, more so than anything else) but - I had no CLUE that the glue might be toxic - I figured it was jsut like weave glue (which isn't toxic - is it??) and without the whole expose on NP, I would have never even KNOWN.

And I would like to think that MOST of the ladies here on LHCF are pretty interested in being educated with their hair choices - but are all of our sistas wearing LF's at the same point? I doubt it.....and you KNOW that manufacturers don't give a damn til they get sued.

So if it takes an ugly, dragout thread to potentially save some sista's lives (and hair) hey - whatever's clever. And if there are sista's who are like 'I don't care if I go blind, have seizures, and stop having periods for months, I'mma still swang my hair' - ya'll, we need to have an intervention....back AWAY from the glue.....

JCoily, thanks for starting this thread. I sent my friend lots of info about lace fronts from this forum for her relative. I'm going to send her a link to this thread too.

I don't want her to kill me if something goes wrong. I know she's doing her own research, but she needs to be aware.

See this is my issue in a nutshell. It is beyond my comprehension how it could be LEGAL to sell a toxic substance in a bottle called wig glue that will knowingly be applied to the skin! I'm sitting here thinking that adhesive wouldn't be more or less lethal than scotch tape.

See, I was watching that lacefront tutorial on youtube and the lady doing the instructional was definitely slathering. And she had lace in the front and back of her unit.

Just thinking about how much glue she wiped off her wig from that one use has me shuddering.

I saw that too. That's why my behind gets a regular 60 dollar human hair wig from the bss with a plastic scalp and call it day. I'm not that desparate for real looking hair to have a seizure.

wow that is terrible!!! i do have a lace front and when i got the bottle of glue, i really felt funny about using it so i sent it back. i actually sent the tape back too.thank God i did after reading all of this!!!!! on saturday, i saw my cousin's best friend and she had a discolored horizontal scar on the top of her forehead. she told me that it was from an allergic reaction to the glue. She said that she had blisters and scabs on her forehead. now she wears bangs all of the time to hide the discolored scar!!!!i have been wearing my lace front a little behing my hair line with my hair blending in. i had some combs sewn in on the inside of the wig to make it secure. thanks for posting this ladies!!!!

I just want to add that i dont want to discourage anyone from purchasing the actual wig itself. Lacefronts are wonderful in regards to protective styles, versatility, and my hair has benefited tremdously from them. A good one is worth the $$ you spend on it, but just beware of the glue (and shady vendors), thats all

So for someone interested in a LF but not increasing her chances for Cancer, what would the LF wearers of LHCF suggest? I'm thinking of ordering one from a Chinese Vendor, so what specs should I give for an easy, realistic application? TIA

Eeeek!!!! I don't need to be in this thread!. I don't want to have to go into rehab over a lacefront.... :look:

Ok thanks because now I am wondering what glue doesn't contain carcinogens and is tape better or do they have cancer causing agents also?
