Hey ladies idk if this has been discussed already but I searched and didn't find anything. Have any of you been charged more because of your length? I live I'm Brooklyn,NY and notice may Dominican salons (all I got to) are beginning to charge me $2 more because my hair is "long" now I'm not gonna lie it does make me feel kind of good loll (don't judge me) are u ladies being charged also? If so how much and what kind of salon

I been stopped going to salons:yep: but when I DID I ALWAYS got charged extra and it was always 5 extra dollars. And this was when I was a little past shoulder length! Smh This was 5th ave. in Brooklyn, and in Delaware. So count ya blessings that their only charging you 2 bucks extra. I always couldn't help but think well DAMN what hair length gets regular price?! Geez, I thought shoulder length WAS the norm! I guess neck length is regular price! Lol Smh

Lolll omg yeaaa $2 deff isn't bad at all. Delaware too sheesh! And yeaa I knowww I understand Mbl+ but I guess they are just greedy

It has been mentioned but a hairdresser has never actually followed through with it. If they did attempt to actually charge me more, I wouldn't be impressed and wouldn't be paying.

I used to go the Dominicans in Queens, NY. Normal Doobie $25, my doobie $45 :nono: I hated that. Would tell them cut me to the $25 mark please!

And some places charge extra if you have 'thick' hair. This is yet another reason why I stopped going to salons. I understand that it may take more time and effort to groom and style longer / thicker hair, but I'd rather just do it myself.

When I use to go, yeah they charge more for longer hair. My long time beautician told me she was not going to wrap my hair anymore because it took too long to dry. So she suggested to blow dry it out. SMH. Once I went in to get a short bob (one of my fav weave styles) and she told me she would have to cut the front of my hair to match the short bob style so that it will feather properly. UHM NO. That was 2 1/2 years ago. Haven't been back since.

BK Dominican Salons definitely charge you more for longer hair. I used to go to Sisters in Fulton Mall, and get charged extra for having APL hair. In the BX, you only pay one rate.

I never had to deal with it but I think a salon near me charges $15. So be happy with your lil $2 fee lol cuz they are crazy here

All the Dominican shops I have ever been to in Harlem and NJ charged me extra when my hair was bsl...the most was $5 but I felt like my hair was so paper thin I shouldn't have to pay extra but I loved my doobies so I paid anyway. I felt like it was still cheaper than any other salons I had ever gone to.

Once they start using the big rollers you're in for the extra charge. I don't go often but I was happy as heck last visit when she pulled out those extra large black rollers and did my whole head with them (except the back edges). My hair is thick also so I know I got away with the regular charge for longer than I should have. I always tip well so when she finally came out with the larger base charge I didn't fuss just . I rather pay the money and keep an eye on her so she takes her time then rushing through because I'm fussing over $2 dang dollars. She already knows use MY comb and detangle from the bottom up.

#longhairproblems :)

I had my hair relaxed at a hair salon for the first time in over a year and they did charge me extra (about 15) for having thick, denser hair even though I brought my own relaxer (didn't like what they had) they charged me the same price as if I had used their products, I didn't mind because I didn't want to change relaxer brands.

I noticed on their service fee list that they do charge extra for longer or thicker hair for styling. I really don't care because I'm only going to be going for a relaxer anyways (and after the relaxer, treatment and styling is included in the relaxer price)

i got charged extra last friday. i remember years ago i went from one price to another. it was a good feeling. i didn't care at the time. it still came out to a good price.

A lot of Dominican salons in Queens, NY extra for long hair. Some of them even consider long hair to be any length past shoulder length, this is crazy. I find that the do the same damn thing her in the DC/Maryland area. I'm happy I do my own hair.

I went to one salon and they charged $5 per every 2 inches past shoulder length. That was actually on their price list. I left without even speaking to anyone.

When I had locs some places wanted to charge me extra to re-twist when I was getting price quotes.

Yup, I've had it happen. When I got my hair cut/shaped last year, I was charged extra for my length...my shrinkage betrays my true length. :ohwell:

I've never been to a Dominican salon, but I see a lot of stylists out here seem like they are catching on to us . I was in a salon the other day with my cousin and they said anything over 8 weeks was excessive new growth and would charge you for a virgin relaxer:ohwell:

I used to get charged $20 or $25 at the dominican salon but now they charge $30 to $35 for my long hair... mind you I'm SL. I've also been to white stylists who have charged me extra for having long hair.

If I ask about it they say its because its longer and more work and my hair uses more product. however, when I look to see how much more they are using it doesnt seem like alot at all. a teaspoon full of your "treatment" isnt enough for my thick hair. Unless you are going to coat all my ends and new growth then I shouldn't have to pay more for the prodcut.

Also I feel like its your JOB to do hair. Unless the hair is Longer than APL then I don't see why I have to pay extra.

Yeah..When I got to APL then BSL My blow out and press went up to $75...Used to be $55.00 for SL. This is why I get a blow out and press once a year for a special occassion....AND, this year I won't be going to that special occassion (FAMU Classic---no band, no naturalgyrl5199).

That's crazy.

They know goodness well hair that's below shoulder length is not necessarily long (unless you're talking thick haired bsl-waist).

Even when I cut off 5 inches, my styling time was minimally affected. When you're using the right technique it shouldn't be that much more work, honestly..

Hm, SL and APL aren't long hair....I'm wondering if it's due to having natural hair? I know they do charge extra for that. I can see them charging more for extra work. Those services were catered toward women with relaxed tresses and now that AA's are on the bandwagon with natural hair, the technique has to be worked harder. In a sense, they are taking advantage of you...but on the other hand, they were geared toward relaxed heads in the first place.

Some Dominican salons charge for length. Some were good. There was one up on 149th and something that only charged 18 and 2 bucks for a deep conditioner on top of that even when I was MBL.
