Moisturizing my ends.

Honeyhips

Lovely
I wear my hair natural. When I wash, condition, and put mango butter on my hair it is fine. When I braid it up at nite and wear it out the next day it is sooo dry. What should I be using on my ends. I've read stuff about vaseline and curl activator /images/graemlins/shocked.gif, I didn't know you could use these. What do they do? Don't they just make your hair greasy? What els is good?

I'm not natural but I'm sure curl activator will be fine on your hair. I use different products daily but the most important thing for me is to make sure that I use WATER before I put on any product that clains to be a moisturizer. Water is a true moisturizer. I don't know if you have tried ths but since I've been doing this (the past week or two) I haven't had dry ends once. And some people who know me may know that I used to always complain about my ends.

HTH!!!!! daviine

Honeyhips,
Sorry to hear about your dilemna. Why don't you give castor oil a try? Find pure castor oil mix it with a little of your favorite leave in conditioner and apply it to your damp hair when you are braiding or twisting your hair. It should help a lot.

good luck

Hi Honeyhips I'm a new natural. A good moisturizer is Glycerin mixed with water. After rinsing and conditioning my hair I spray this mixture on and braid my hair too before going to bed. In the morning my hair is never dry. Have you been to nappturality.com or ourhair.net? These are good sites for naturals. How long have you been natural? And what's your current hair length. My hair is about 3ins I just had my big chop last month. I know that alot of people swear by the glycerin mixture.

It doesn't seem to be coating my hair so I guess by default I am assuming that it is penetrating my hair. My hair feels soft and moist (if you can imagine that). It doesn't feel coated at all. I guess it could vary with the product and/or the amount used.

Whenever my hair started to feel or look dry, I would wash it and it would look great and I would be happy all over again.

When I apply water, then the moistuizer/oil/curl activator (whatever it is that day), I get almost the same results as if I had washed my hair.

I hope this made sense as it's kinda late. /images/graemlins/sleeping.gif

What kind of oil moisturizer do you use? I've tried nearly everything out there and the only thing that has worked for me (my hair is really dry) is to spray it down with a leave-in and use Motions Oil Moisturiser. When I braid up my hair at night, I roll up the ends so they aren't showing and then I tie everything up with a scarf and by morning, my ends are soft and moisturized.

You could try Fantasia IC pure tea silky activator gel it is really moisturizing CD Healthy Hair Butter works well on my hair when its wet.

Thanks ladies.

I've been natural for, uh, um, maybe 6yrs. I should have this down pat by now but I don't. I have no idea how long my hair is. It is bra length when str8 and shoulder when curly. I've been to nappturality. and ourhair. I like this board b/c you are focused on growing long hair.

I'm not using any type of oil moisturizer, right now I'm just putting mango butter in my hair when it is wet. I've been braiding it up and not washing it for 3-6 days. I'm tired of having wet hair hanging down my back. It is to cold for that:)! I noticed that when I really coated it, the ends were fine. We'll see how it is tomorrow.

Thanx so much for your info. I'll be trying it all.
