Modest to the nth degree, but still . . .

I am scheduled to marry in about 5.5 weeks. We are going to the courts to accomplish this (I'm a Notary and here we can perform marriages; but, I'm sure can't perform the ceremony on myself, LOL). It occurred to me the other day:

The is IT for us both :dinner:
He is THE one (talk about a loooong exhale, yet I digress)

I want to be a "blushing bride-to-be" these last few weeks. And, just because we're having a low-key ceremony, I still want to look good.

What, pray tell, would be a nice outfit to marry in when you have a civil ceremony? :sweet:

First of all - Congratulations!! :)

If I were you, I would wear a short white or light colored dress with a fitted jacket on top, some pearls and a pair of really nice shoes and a clutch.

Or were you looking for something more low key?

Congrats LL! I love the suggestions FlowerHair gave. Those are simple yet elegant options.

These are all stunning. I am picturing me walking into Polk or Hillsborough County offices with these on . . . too classy for them, LOL. I'd probably have to take it down a notch . . . unfortunately. Stunning though!!! :) No doubt he'll have on a simple grey suit with ummm, umm, oh what is the pattern, I call it plaid. It's that business suit pattern with white, lt. blue, grey and white. Oh shoot, wonder if I can find a swatch. I'll look for it.

*in my whiny voice* But WWHHYY???? It's still YOUR wedding day when you are getting married to THE one. You deserve to be as pretty as can be no matter where you get hitched!

This is gorgeous. I love how it has a bridal look and is dressy enough for a special occasion rather than a regular suit.

I'm not sure who this was Mick Jagger was marrying, but her style was understated and she looked good.
(maybe I'm just partial to the hat) :drunk:

I think a suit like this would be LOVELY!

Uuuww, crls, it is lovely. I would not do it justice with this 185 lb. frame though :lachen:. Here are some of the patterns I have on hand . . . what choo think???

I'm actually making this dress to wear on the 26th to a Special Assembly Day. i have it in a grey heather/tweedy looking fabric. Basically it looks just like the fabric in the photo except mine has grey, black, white texture. it is a smart fabric and I can't wait to put that puppy on, we're going to meet up where the talk is given and I just know his eyes are going to Va-va-va-voom even from me simply showing him the pattern and the shoes I'll be wearing . . oh and he really drooled over the black seam-back stockings that I described. :lachen:

I would make a solid colored sheath, of course! Or, I COULD get away with a brocade I guess.

And, for comparison sake, here's what I look like:

I'm on the 50 yard line (heey, the fifdeeyear old is on da 50; uh huh reppin' the class of '77).

Wellll, you do have a point there DD!

Oh, but wait, I remember now . . . girrllzzzz, this dude is a country boy to his heart. I would be so upstaging him in these dresses :lachen:. He makes me smile, he sounds like a country boy, mixed with Irish executive appeal, with some hood thrown in, especially when I hear him say "Boy, I will knock your head off" when his boys act out. Or, when he says to me, "Girl . . . . this or that", LOL.

It really depends on your style. Here's some various styles that could work:

I hope you bring a small bouquet too:

looooove the one on the left, including the hair feather for extra pop, very vintage 50's. Add a small bouquet and you're a modest bride with flair

and paired down versions of a wedding dress are still really pretty

another vintage look more the 30's:

I don't think you could go wrong with any of these! I really like the first one though...

Your weight has nothing to do with how you will look. If you have the correct size you can certainly work that suit. With Easter coming you can find a pastel or white suits in stores now. No matter what you wear you will upstage him - its the one day that its allowed so go for it!

Congratulations.

Hello LD, my personality could certainly rock . . .

I hope you bring a small bouquet too:

I suuuure wish my mamma could have met BFF!!! DD no. 3 is flying in tomorrow. We'll have lunch with him on Monday.

I AM SO EXCITED. I have not seen her since May, 2010, when my eldest grandson graduated high school. I am SO pumped. I've got to work 12-hour night shift tonight and the thought of seeing her face will get me through.

Thanks ladies for chiming in. You're all gems.

LL

Shoot, wish I could find a pattern like this, LD. Was at Jo-Ann yesterday with ohsoothentic, but didn't see anything to hit my fancy. Might just go with one of the sheath pattern I already have (shown at beginning of thread).
