Mizani Silkener

Has anyone ever gotten a Mizani Silkener? If so, how did you like it? It's like a texturizer, like Wave Noveau. Here's a link describing it:

I know Mizani has good products. Since I cut my hair real short I was thinking about getting a texturizer, so I can have the option of wearing it curly/straight.

I thought a wave nouveau and a texturizer were 2 different things. . .Wave Nouveau is like a Jherri Curl (using ammonium thioglycolate) and texturizer are just relaxers. Right?

I have heard of it, but don't know anyone who has one. I would be careful with the ammonium thioglycoate straighteners.... it seems like there's something you can't do with your hair if you have one of those... I can't remember if its permanent color...lye relaxer or what... but there's something that isn't recommended.

I know people use relaxers to texturize, CurlyCrly I mentioned that in the beginning of my last post. A straight texturizer is different, or so I thought, like SCurl. I wouldn't consider that to be the same as a relaxer. I don't want to use a relaxer to texturize. Too tricky.

This silkener uses Arginne technology. I have no clue what that is!!!

It's hard trying to find info on this product. I've scoured the web for info on it. Sheldeez sells it. I would call, but then I read about their crappy customer service. I don't want to wait days and weeks for an answer...

I think you mean Arginine technology. Arginine is an amino acid. I think here, it is supposed to help protect the hair and make it smooth.

I've been waiting to hear reviews on this process too. and you are right ThursdayGirl, you can't use a thio based process with relaxer in your hair. It causes what my friend calls a chemical haircut. Not pretty. My hair is processed with Loreal X-Tenso which is thio based and I would love to hear reviews on this thio product.

Oh no. I wouldn't dare put it over a relaxer! Since my hair is very short, it won't take long for it to grow out....hopefully....

Very true. I've been using S-curl texturizer to texturize my hair. I have texturized my family members' hair successfully with relaxers though. It's all about timing and how long you leave it on.

With a texturizing kit, it's a lot easier to achieve wavy hair because it seems slower at straightening the hair than a relaxer from my observations of both relaxing and texturizing my own hair as well as other people's.

If you leave a relaxer on too long then you're going to get straight hair not texturized, but timing is crucial. With a relaxer you have to apply it very quickly and then literally wash it out after 5 mins or so to get waves. With a texturizer you can still comb through and leave it on for a while and still get waves.

No the arginine technology and thiol based refer to two different things. I think they are trying to tell you that the arginine technology is there to help smooth and protect the hair. The thiol (thio) part is what does the relaxing. Its basically melting the hair a little yo soften it.

Just to give you a point of reference these silkeners and relaxers use ammonium thioglycolate to do the relaxing. A similar compound, sodium thioglycolate is in Nair, Veet and other chemical hair removers...these hair removers basically melt the hair off of your skin.

This is good to know. I just assumed that all texturizers were lye relaxers. I guess the actual texturizers are more fool proof?

I have heard of it an all I remember is that not too many people are satisfied with this product/method. The reviews I heard about this is down indefinately so I can't refer you to that site.

I'm actually wondering about the wave nouveau - my aunt uses it and it is lovely! However, I guess I'm skeptical because you have to use rods to achieve the look.

Is this still yet just a texturizer? or would it be considered a lot stronger (more like a jheri curl?)
