Mizani Ladies - I need your help. !Please!

I am due for my 12 week touch up very soon and would like to try to Mizani, but I am having some trouble figuring out which products to buy and in which order I should use them. Any advice would be great. My questions are:

- Is there a Butter Blend for fine hair? I see a fine hair relaxer, but it does not seem to say Butter Blend. Does it make a difference?
- Which product is supposed be put on PRIOR to relaxer? Butter Blend base or Honey Shield base? Is there really a difference?
- Do the Butter Blend products work as well with the relaxers that do NOT say Butter Blend?
- There seems to be a normalizing conditioner and a neutralizing shampoo. Are any of the Mizani ladies forgoing the shampoo for the conditioner or a different PH balancing product? Are you using both?
- How is the Moisturfuse conditioner? Do any ladies use it AFTER relaxing? Would you repurchase?

Whether I do the relaxer myself or go to a stylist, I want to be sure it is being done correctly. I notice that some stylists tend to mix product. This would be fine if I was going to a stylist I know, but I will probably be trying someone new if I decide to go. If I relax myself, I want to make sure I am getting the correct items.

:thankyou:

Hi,

First of all I a newbie here, but I just recently permed my own hair and I couldn't find Butter Blends or CON in my Arkansas area, so I used the ORS perm.

But I used the Mizani Phormula-7 (which is a neutralizer, but I also use this for clarifying my hair) and I used the Aphrogee 2-minute reconstructor for protein and the Moisturefuse for my deep moisturizing conditioner.

I love the Mizani Phormula-7 and the Moisturefuse. I will be making sure that I am stocked up on both.

I permed my own hair...and didn't get it straight enough unfortunately... I didn't leave it on long enough because I had a lot of new growth..but at least it wasn't overprocessed... I was supposed to post pics but I forgot...:o

I permed my hair...
Used the Mizani Phormula-7
Used the Aphrogee 2 minute
then the Moisturefuse..

Yes, there is a ButterBlends for fine hair.

The honeyshield is for hair and scalp.

In terms of product mixing, I think that relaxer systems are designed to work together.

Honestly, if you are going to go through the effort of getting the butterblends, just get the shampoo and conditioner that come with it. And yes, you should use both.

Moisturefuse is a decent conditioner if your hair really needs it. My hair doesn't respond at all when my hair doesn't need it. Fufyl is better to me. If you are going to use the butterblends system, please remember that you don't need a ton of extra conditioning after relaxing if you follow each step correctly. Hair responds to conditioning the best after relaxer cream is rinsed out so a lot of extra is overkill at a certain point.

Check out the mizani website for more detailed info on each product in the butter blends system.

There is a butter blends system for fine/color treated hair. Places like Payne's Beauty Supply and bluebeez.com will allow you to get the whole set. Add me to the list of folks who believe the entire system is designed and should be used together--especially by people who are relatively new to self-relaxing.

I love Mizani. I've never used the Butter Blends, I just use the regular lye formula for mild/ color treated hair. Before the relaxer, honestly I just use a regular $1 hair grease for my scalp, but if you wanna use Mizani's that's fine. I know Affirm has a good one too to base your scalp with. As far as the neutralizing shampoos and conditioners, I don't use the Mizani brand for that. And I've been pleased with my results. My staple conditioner is Keracare humecto and I use that to condition.

Basically my method is because honestly I'm really broke so all I have Mizani money for right now is the relaxer.

Thanks so much for your input ladies. I could not find any info on the Mizani site itself, and the Mizani posts on the LHCF seem to be older or referring to other Mizani relaxers; ergo, my post.

I appreciate the help and will go check out bluebeez.com to see what they have. I'm really looking forward to trying this one.

I used the butter blends yesterday, I liked the way it came out. I only bought the relaxer, but I think I will go on to buy the base, neutralizer and the conditioner. I used castor oil to base and EVOO to coat my ends and this worked well for me, I had no burning whatsoever, but I will still buy the rest of the system.

The tub that I've got is huge though, I'm probably going to get at least 6-7 more applications out of it!!!

ETA: What I'm not sure about is the Microfusion. I've seen some very varied reviews to this products - any thoughts on this ladies? Is it worth getting?

I also just used the Mizani Butter Blends system two days ago. I am an avid Mizani Fan...and I use the entire Butter Blends system. Check out my fotki if you want to see more.

1) I start with the Butter Base, I part my scalp and apply the base to my scalp and edges
2) Then I use the Honey Shield to apply generously to my already relaxed hair. Surprisingly enough, the honey shield actually really works. Relaxer runoff has no affect on my protected strands.
3) I use the Butter Blends Relaxer for Fine/ColorTreated hair. For my tough new growth, this gives me nice relaxer, but I still get to keep my waves. A little straighter than texlaxed, but never ever bone straight.
4) Next step is to rinse the relaxer very very well. Then you apply the PerpHecting Creme. THis protein step dramatically brings down the pH level of your hair, and stops the processing
5) Then comes the Neutralizing/CHelating shampoo....with color indicator. White is good, Pink is NOT good. Keep washing 'til all suds are white.
6) Then the Microfusion protein conditioning spray. THis stuff is nice, and smells nice too. It think the bottle says you can use it even when not relaxing.

I relax my hair in complete sections. These are the steps I use each and every time I relax 3 times per year. And I get awesome results every single time.

Your local BSS might have it, you'll be surprised........ I live in the country and the Chinese owned ones have it. Cheaper online though. Funny enough, I switched to Affirm for about a year, then when I was looking at old pics I realized my hair looked better with Mizani. What my hair wants, my hair gets, so I switched back to Mizani.

Once again, the LHCF Ladies have come through. Thanks so much for everything!

Baddison: This is exactly what I was looking for. Although I have self-relaxed before, I am not at all familiar with the Mizani method and could not figure out the order of the products. This is a great help.

Shunimite: I plan to check out my local BSS's this weekend. I live kind of in the sticks, but I may be traveling to Philly this weekend. I am fairly sure I can find it there.

If ordering on-line seems to be more cost-effective than driving all around, I will go ahead and order.

Thanks Again Ladies!!:bighug:

They sell a lot of Mizani Products in three of the local BSS's. However, none of them stock all of the products in the system. I think between the three of them I can get all of the system products. But there is no way my nerves will allow me to do all that driving around.

OH... Bluebeez and Amazon have the system for about $35 less than Payne's. However, Payne's is sending the 4 lb. tub of relaxer. Bluebeez and Amazon are only sending the 30 oz. tub of relaxer. So, you are getting more than double the relaxer with the Payne's price.

That is me. Where I live, the closest thing to a BSS is Sally's and . . . well, no hope there :ohwell:. I had never heard of Paynes until you mentioned it, so I will be checking these out as well. If I don't go into Philly, I will need to order on-line so I need some bargains.

Question - How long do lye relaxers last once opened? If I order a 4lb tub and only relax 3-4/year, will it go bad. No-Lye relaxers tend to get crunchy even when they are not opened.

Don't worry.....they LAST and LAST ...:lachen:

I also only relax 3/4 times a year. I keep my tub under my bathroom sink and it is never opened except on relaxer day. I've also heard that some ladies refridgerate their unsed portions. I do not. My relaxer is good every single time I use it throughout the year. I get the same results each time.

I think one of the stylists on the board said they last for 3 years as long as you keep them closed and in a cool dark place.

I don't mean to hijack, but how are you ladies sure you're getting the real deal from the bss? I'm gonna start ordering online because of this reason.
Are there supposed to be expiration dates on the package? Everytime I relaxed from my tub it took longer and longer to process on my hair. I figure the stuff was old :(

That's ok. You do bring up a good point. I saw the diversion note on Mizani's site. Of course according to them (Mizani) only salons sell their product. I called the Ulta salon/bss about 30 mins from my house and they said they do not sell it, they only apply it. But they wanted $150 to do my hair. :perplexed WTH? There are other salons in the area, but I am nervouse about having a stylist I don't know put a relaxer in my hair.

This is why I queried the LHCF ladies. I did not want to do this blind. I feel okay trusting a source that someone on this forum has already trusted. Or drive into Philly to a BSS that I trust :ohwell:.

Of course, now that I know the relaxer will last, the trip to Philly might be worth it. :yep:
