Hahah, I was REALLY considering that, but the price list is RIGHT on the front counter with the receptionist....If I have some waiting time, I'll try to copy it in my blackberry or something, it'll look like I'm writing an email ;)

Looking forward to the report

I need a hair cut and I'm thinking they are my best bet...either there or Mr. G's. They are so expensive though!:ohwell:

Mr. G's? I haven't heard of this. Where is it located? If it costs anymore than Miss Jessie's...OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really hope its not as expensive as Miss Jessie's. It's also located in Brooklyn. However, I did get the name confused. It's called G's Urban Hairstyles. Essence mag has a profile on the salon at this website:

http://www.essence.com/essence/salonnetwork/profile_gsurbanhss_ny.html

Even though Miss Jessie's service is superb, its reallly really expensive so I'm trying to find a natural hair salon that won't cost me as much. I'll call to find out the price for hair cuts because thats all I'll be needing. I'm not sure if they do silkeners though.

Gurl show up 30 mins early! I have a friend in NY and I wanted to make it out there before year's end and go to Miss Jessies or Devachan. I only want the cut. The only thing is all the cuts at Miss Jessies look exactly the same and I havent seen enough feedback about Devachan.

Do your investigative report and get us the scoop!!!! So when I visit New York (NY, right?) I can know if it's worth a visit....

Is that bare minerals you're using?? What is that eyeshadow?!?!?

Forget the flawless hair - your makeup looks fab!!! Details! STAT!

Cool, well post what you find out about their cuts, because that's all I get done and Miss Jessie's anyways and I am open minded about going somewhere else if they are just as reliable in their service. Someone sent me some info about a salon in Jersey they went to that is trained in the Ouidad style of cutting and said they did just as good of a job as Miss Jessie's so I may try that down the road.

I do have bare minerals on, the eye color is some cheap drugstore eye highligher/bronzer with a darker MAC color (can't remember the names of either off hand so I'll get back to you, lol)

LOL, ok, I'll try to get there early. I think because of all the damage I had back last Nov when I first went, they cut deeper layers into the top part of my hair than they usually do, which makes my cut "slightly" different from some of the others, like my managers. I just go for the cut, I can't imagine spending anymore than I do for any of their other services. My manager gets that silkener crap and spends like $500 a visit!!!

I was going to ask if your phone had a camera where you could record video (I wanna see the silkening technique) but you have a BB (so do I) and they don't have camera's yet, let alone video!

Enjoy yourself and don't forget to report back!

Oh for anyone wondering, I WOULD NOT SUGGEST going to this salon just to get natural hair styled via "shingling" or "finger styling" because it ONLY last about 2 days on natural, unprocessed hair and you'll spend $150 for them to slap some curly pudding on it. Most of their "natural" styles you can achieve at home yourself, which is why I only use them for my cutting services because it doesn't make sense to pay that much for a style you'll only get a few 2-3 days the most of wear out of. If I do decide I need to go to a salon simply for styling, best believe I'll be headed somewhere else, LOL.

Have fun!

BTW, I'm curious as to how professional they are, like do they take you on time and get you out of there reasonably quick?

Yes, they pretty much stay on time. I don't remember sitting there much "waiting" for the next step or to be taken. Very professional, they have assistance that "prep" you and check up on you constantly, serve you food and beverages while you are under the dryer. You'll spend about 1 hour under the dryer for drying, and 15-20 min for deep conditioning before that...shingling can take a while to do (I'm just going to have them "finger style" this time) so i've spent maybe 3 hours a visit.

That is the salon I go too...they are pricey but no where near the prices of Miss Jessies. I like them alot.

I've been going there for years...they mainly use Aveda products. Also, one of my friend use to go to Miss Jessies and she told me her silkener was nothing but a regular texturizer. Maybe that inaccurate but if its not, I am sure G's can handle it.

Ooh you should try this G's place. It's an Aveda concept salon. They'll be using better products than Miss Jessie's and I believe that have to have special training from Aveda too. I'm thinking their prices will not be as high. I've had my natural hair cut at an Aveda concept salon (in Boston) for $85 by a senior stylist. So I would recommend trying this place out first!

Do it for the LHCF team Parvathi! LOL...

ETA: And my stylist at the Aveda salon cut on DRY hair, not straightened. From my understanding Miss Jessie's cuts your hair while it's straight. That annoys me personally cause I never wear my hair straight.

Yep, they do blow out your hair before they cut.

I can tell you that the price of a rinse is $75.00. They use Miss Clariol's Beautiful collection, which runs around $4.00 at the BSS. I had to get it to cover my gray.

Ok, I'm home so I can tell you what I used. The eye I have Physicians Formula Eyebrightener in Hint of Bronze, MAC Matte shadow in Embark, and MAC Pencil in Teddy. The lipgloss is Urban Decay in Mai Tai. The eyebrightener looks really good by itself, it's a nuetral bronze color, the effects are pretty cool. The darker color you see is the Embark. I was going out so I did a little "extra"...well for me it is, lol.
