I was telling my mother in law that I didn't want to use a certain product because it contained mineral oil. She told me that it actually helps stop breakage. I kind of laughed at her, but then thought about it and I wasn't really sure. I always though it blocked moisture from your strands. So was so right about it stopping breakage?

It's not something I know for sure. Some people use products with mineral oil in it, and some people avoid it like the plague.

I don't use products with MO because it seems like every product that I've used in the past with MO in it just made my hair feel dry and brittle. You have to figure out what works for you.

Before I baggie, I do put a moisturizer (like scurl or something) on my ends before putting something like vaseline on the ends. That has worked for me... When I take off the baggie, my hair is still moist and not dried out. I've never had dried out ends while using a moisturizer and mineral oil/vaseline/pertoleum jelly, but that works for me.

But if you're using Luster's Pink Lotion.... that stuff dries my hair out faster than a raindrop in the sahara!:perplexed

:lachen::lachen:had to laugh at that one!

I use Nexxus and it has mineral oil in it... but it doesn't dry my hair out. Some products that have mineral oil in it is okay for me unless its high up on the ingredients list. S-Curl for instance..did nothing for my hair. But like it was stated...you have to find what works for you.

^^^^ I think that's what it all boils down to. How your hair reacts to a product. For most of my life my mom used Dax which has pertroleum and mineral oil on my scalp..and later on sulfur 8. My hair was the longest and healthiest when I was a child (wl). She also used Pink moisturizer with no proplems in my hair. I now use SCurl and I love it. It works well on my hair. HTH and Good luck.

LOL! :lachen:Thanks for all the responses ladies! I haven't used mineral oil in about 3 years now, I guess my hairs doing okay without it, but those Affirm products have MO in it so I guess I'll only use it when I'm using those products.
