what are the possible causes?

I just checked my hair today and found breakage in the middle and front, i can't figure out why this has happened, i take care of my hair really well.

den, are you pulling your hair too tight for pony's or buns? that's a big culprit especially if the hair is wet when you do it.

I find a few hairs that are like that too...I don't know what the problem is, because I'm not a big bunner or pony wearer. If my hair isn't down, its lightly pinned up.

OOH Shoot, yes, i place my hair into a ponytail holder while its wet, and when i remove the ponytail holder i notice strands of hair wrapped around it. i think i'll have to do away with this method altogether

i'm mystified by this, i'm wondering if certain parts of my hair is slightly overprocessed, through overlapping, i remember not haver much growth at the front when I i last relaxed four months ago.

relaxer overlap

wet bunning

not enough elasticity
i had a lack or protein issue a few weeks ago, but i've remedied the problem by including good amounts of protein, i even did an elasticity test, and streched my strands and they bouunced right back without breakage.

The breakage occurs when my hair is wet and when combing my hair and using the ponytail holder on wet hair. There is a possibility that overlapped has occured, in the front portions of my hair, that is why i decided to strecth relaxers to 5-6 months to avoid this happening again.

Damn, Den... never do that. Never put a holder of any kind on wet hair. In fact, I say don't use holders. They all cause breakage.

Yes, do away with that method. Please. Sorry this happened to you.

thanks blossom, girl i feel so stupid..i ruined my hair for months, first lack of protein now wrongfully using pontyail holders this is what i've been doing for months and i notice so much breakage when my hair is wet and especially after removing the holder. i will try using pinning my hair up while it dries, i think i'm going to stop using a comb while wet too.

Hey Den1

I was doing this too. Especially since I was doing co-washes, and I would just tie my hair back.

But now I see the breakage around the outside of my hair. not in the inner parts.

So I know it's the hair elastic I was using.

I just purchased a clip. And if I do co-washes, I'll do a wash and go instead.

Thanks for the advice guys!

Awwwww Den I'm sooooo sorry this is happening to you. Yeah, I would say do away with the ponytail holder (I might need to do this as well:confused: ).

the middle sections where i noticed breakage, is also underprocessed, as well as a stress point where the ponytail holder snags on.

Oh Den, Den, Den..call on the witch :flyingwit doctor right now!! I have followed your great progress from my day 1 on the boards and I am feeling your pain! You did so well with crown and glory..go back and don't dare deviate. By the way, how are you and your Sweetie doing? I remember his photo when you were in the multi-braids.

One day soon your hair drama will be over and your hair will grow long and be beautiful. I always use a ponytail holder on my wet hair before I bun it and I have no problems with breakage. I use a silky/satin ponytail holder and it actually is quite good for my hair because it ususally is moist with the moisturising spray that I use every am/pm on my hair. I read your earlier post and I definitely would say stop using the k-cutter on wet hair. I stop using that comb a long time ago because I knew if I continued to use it, it would lead to breakage. Glad you got enlighten about k-cutter comb. I also always comb my hair wet instead of dry. I wash my hair and wrap my microfiber towel around my hair for about 3 minutes and then I spray with wankee's detangling conditioning spray and proceed to detangle each section. It seems like my hair is getting easier to comb and detangle (30minutes) and I don't comb again until next wash day. I guess it just shows that what may work for one, may not work for the other. I wish you the best on your hair journey.
