Microbraids

If there is a too much tension on the hair, there will likely be a bit of breakage. I experienced a little breakage on my first set. They were installed tightly, and styled frequently. To avoid that this go round, I'm self installing them to ensure they aren't as painfully tight. Also, I'm opting for mini-micro twists instead of braids to ease takedown, and minimize tangles.

Yes the are not good on your edges/hairline, but I always got tons of retained length in the end.

Have the stylist take bigger sections of hair and use little weave so that the weight is not so much.

I use to just micro braid the center of my hair and leave my halo out LOL.

ETA: Have the stylist knot your braids, it helps it to not be so weighty

I've seen some folks go bald around the edges and some retain all of their hair. I think some folks pull them to tight even if they are installed properly

Don't get them braided too tight, especially around the edges.

Be sure to wash and condition at least weekly and moisturize daily.

Don't leave them in too long (I would say 8 weeks max).

My edges still haven't fully recovered from braids/twists I had last summer. :nono: Try to get bigger size braids and not too much weave so it wont' be so heavy.

OP, there are both negatives and positives when it comes to microbraids. But I think I covered the main ones in this post.

Otherwise this thread has more reviews on them from both sides.
