Messy Hot Oil Treatments

I've got a nasty case of dry scalp/cradle cap going on right now and even though I wanted to hop in the shower and do a quick wash I knew that an overnight hot oil treatment would help.

The only problem is I hate doing them because of the mess :perplexed
I only used about 1/3 cup of oil on both scalp and hair then used two plastic caps, and a Turbie Twist and it always manages to drip out onto my face and neck. :nono:

I would do them more often but I really can't stand the oil seepage. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

I like a scalp massage with room temp EVCO before I wash. Not messy- I've left this on overnight with no problems.

Use less oil or don't put the entire 1/3rd on at once put 1/2 in and let it absorb before putting in the other 1/2.

Also a good old fashioned cotton rag ontop of your plastic wraps will soak up any seepage (LOL! is that a word?)

you could try using that salon cotton to wrap around your head, that they use for perms and stuff to stop the drips.

the only thing is I think you have to buy a huge amount. you could also try unrolling really fat cotton balls for the same effect

I apply the oil by using a color application bottle so just enough comes out without over-saturating - then I put on a plastic cap and scarf...no excess and I don't even have to put a towel on my pillow

I use coconut cream (not milk) as the base for my oil treatments. I only use 1 - 2 tablespoons of each oil (wheat germ, avocado, walnut, etc). Blend well with the coconut cream and you have a fairly thick oil treatment. It definitely does not drip as much and does wonders for my hair & scalp.

Thank you so much Ladies for the suggestions! :yep:

I thought about the cotton ball strips but I think it would still leak but I'll definitely try it. I really like the idea of an applicator bottle and a coconut cream base to mix the oils in first. Is a cream different than the solid coconut oil? That mixture sounds wonderful! :lick:
