Blacks Sign New Mayflower Compact

Leaders from the African-American community came together Tuesday to sign a document the signers are calling the 21st Century Mayflower Compact.

The document was created to bring clarity to the current conversation going on within the black community about faith, family values and the economy.

"It was a historic gathering that I'm proud to see
happen," said Phyllis Berry Myers, an original signer.
"We've fought hard for civil rights in this country. But
with those rights come responsibilities . . . to family,
to God and to the future of the community as a whole."

Other signers include Frederick Douglass IV, great-great grandson of the leading black opponent of slavery during the Civil War era.
