Hey Ladies,
I went through the thread about,” How to make a bun", and everyone was pretty much saying they did it on wet hair. Since I'm trying to do some more protective styles, I'm trying to find ways to pull my hair back in a phony ponytail after I have washed my hair and it has dried.

What are some good products that give the hair a good smooth down look when doing this? I am 10wks post relaxer and have a lot of new growth. I really don’t want to wet my hair everyday, because detangling it is so hard to do and seems to cause a lot of breakage.

So what is a girl to do? :perplexed

I like to spray my hair first to make it damp. I was using S-Curl but I'm really enjoying my new homemade mix. Then I take a dab of Fantasia IC Gel and a dap of Elasta QP Glaze. Mix them together and apply to the edges. Then I lightly brush and tie it down with a scarf for about 15 minutes. I do this everyday.

Great!! Thanks a lot, so when you use the S-Curl on your new growth along with the mix does it get your hair smooth, or does it still have that real course look to it? I know I see a lot of ladies that pull their hair back like that, and it almost looks like it was freshly relaxed even when they are post 10-12wks.

I've been hearing good things about that Elasta QP Glaze, I may try that.

Your hair looks longer than mine so this may not apply to you. But when I was trying to come up with a good bun for protective styling I took step-by-step pics and put them on my website. I think it's the last entry there.

I don't do S-Curl on my bun every night (just when it's looking scraggly) because I think I hate the smell. Reminds me of greezy aunts and uncles in the 80's. LOL!

The S-Curl gets it smooth enough. My NG is very coarse. The only way it looks freshly relaxed is when it's freshly relaxed. But it does lay flat and look presentable.

Thanks ladies, I just went out and purchased the Fantasia IC gel and Elasta QP glaze. I just really needed something to look good without getting my hair wet everytime.

You guys were a great help. :)

Dudly's PCA and Jane Carter Solution hair nourishing cream are two of the best for smothing down. I use either one of these with a satin scarf and it prevents me from having to brush the front of my hair. Jane Carter is the best, but it is 20 bucks a pop. But a little goes a long way. I find it much better than the Elasta mango butter which I found made my hair hard.

I always make my bun after my hair has dried. I airdry in a rollerset to smooth my hair it out, then make a smooth bun, French Twist or any style. I use my trusty satin or silk scarf to smooth it down even more.

Divine Inspiration turned me onto Luster's Pink Gloss spray (has lots of essential oils) that give me a perfect shine without being oily and without building up on my hair.:)

I'll have to check this out. I can always use some extra shine. :)
