MAJOR Weave Let down!!!!

I just had to vent to some people who I know would understand...I just spent 180.00 on weaving hair to get my hair done in the bob that Taraji Henson wore in the "I Can Do Bad All By Myself" movie. I trusted this stylist to do my hair because she said she's been doing hair for years and her work has been featured in magazines, etc. So, naturally, I assumed after showing her a picture of what I wanted, that she could make it happen. Tell me why did I leave her place yesterday looking like Moms Mabley?!! I was so upset!! I had a peak in the middle of my head too because she refused to use a closure piece. She said she knows how to close the weave without the piece...naturally, I took her word for it. I came home last night and I was chopping and cutting and trimming trying to fix the do. I still look like I just woke up!! I am left with no choice but to take this down tonight!! I haven't even had this in for 24 hours yet! PLUS! PLUS...This expensive remi hair I bought is making my face itch!! Freakin...I am so upset!! Ok, I'm done venting...lol...can anyone relate to an episode like mine? Am I wrong for taking this style down after spending close to $300 for the entire process??

Wow that sucks! No you're not wrong for taking the style out. Just take this as an expensive lesson...if they can't show you pictures of their work, don't let them do your hair. Any professional will have pics of their work.

Now, I suggest you head on over to bhm and learn how to install your own weaves (and choose high quality hair so it doesn't make you itch).

did you wash the hair?

i had an unpleasant experience with my last sew-in...the stylist assured me she was the best in town. i had the conehead from hell, and it definitely looked like i had a bad wig. however, this was before my LHCF days, so i had no idea i was entitled to ask her to fix it. hell, if you spent all that money, you need to tell her it's not working out. make HER take it out and redo it, or threaten to give her some very bad reviews.

Girl, keep the hair in. I believe in trying if at all possible to get your money's worth. It may help to wash the hair to get rid of the itchiness.
There has to be some kind of way to "work" the hair so you can get some use out of it.
Pictures would help us to help you - just mark your face out - if that's the issue.
There is no way I would scrap it unless it was too tight and I was risking damage. I would rock some headbands, scarves or something, until I figured it out.
At the least you should call the stylist tomorrow and tell her she needs to do something with it (for free) until you like it.

I had tried to get this style with cornrowed front and loose curly afro in the back. The braider/weaver was from W. African and I just believed she could do it well. When I got home, I thought I looked absolutely ridiculous and took it down in 2 days. You could see the weave cap through the hair in the back.

But seriously, you lost me at Moms Mabley.

It couldn't have been *that* bad, could it? :look:

Please post some pics!!
What type of remy hair did you use?? I agree with MSA you should definitely head over to BHM and atleast get some pointers on the best cornrow patterns and the best hair to use. Learning how to do your own weaves is not going to help you right this moment but it may help you in the long run. I'm sorry you had to experience a bad weave though! I'm the type of person who doesn't trust new people to do my hair so I have to actually see their work in real time before I let them touch my head..real talk!

LMBO! YES GIRL....THAT BAD!! I really did try to work it the best i could! I honestly did! I mean, I cut it, styled it and went out and about today to see if I could get past it...but every time I caught a glimpse of my hair in a reflection anywhere I flinched and got pissed! lol...I can't keep this in for another minute! I'm starting to get bumps on my face too...I'm thinking I may be allergic to this particular hair cause this has never happened to me before with any type of hair...it probably had rabies in it...lol...lemme stop!

Good night, y'all, I'm thu!

I've been in your shoes and I just asked the hairdresser to re-do it or make some type of alterations. I had to with my current install. She left a little bit of hair out and the amount left out was so small that it looked like I had a bald spot. I asked if she could close it and she did. It looked so much better.

If you don't trust her to fix it, either take it out or have someone else try and style the weave differently, even though I don't think you should have to go through all of that trouble. Blackhairmedia is a great website for weave information. The ladies on the site really know their stuff about brands, textures, you name it. I highly recommend it.

Sorry about your install. Trust me, I know it sucks!

So sorry to hear that. I have had experiences with bad sew-ins twice and in both cases I just took them down immediately as I could not get someone to fix them. Its better than walking around feeling *****.

These days I do not leave the chair until I am satisfied. I really ask them to fix and re-fix.

I hope you get a new stylist who knows what she is doing.

i feel your pain, i currently have a bad install that i absolutely hate. i'm in the military so i have to wear my hair in a bun 5/7 days out of week. its cute when my hair is down, because its wet and wavy but the minute i pull it back its *****. My tracks show and i tell everybody allday to stop looking at my tracks....LOL my hair looks like a fuzzy birds nest, i hate it

I totally understand.

Is it indian hair? Because I had the same problem with Indian Hair. It was so fine that when pulled back in a bun :nono: it just looked wrong. let down it was really fine.

Maybe you could do an install with yaki remi and a closure? I find that hair thicker yet realistic and it covers tracks and bumps well

This is always a tough situation because you already know her work isnt stellar yet you arent happy. I would go back to her and try to get her to fix what you dont like. I wouldnt want to waste $300. If the cut is that bad, you may have to just take it down :(

I'm sorry for your unfortunate experience, I've been there, done that oh so many times! If you just happen to live in Atl or LA, my stylist is the one that did Taraji's hair for the movie. I can give you her info...????

Ginsana, I am so sorry that this is happening to you.

I can empathize because I had a bad weave experience four years ago. I paid $140 to get the weave put in, but I took it out four days later because I was allergic to the hair.

I agree with lilsparkle825. I would tell her what happened and ask her to fix it. If she gives you problems, tell her that you will give her bad reviews.

Because you are allergic to the hair, you need to take care of this ASAP. I know what that itching feels like, and it's nothing nice.

The allergy to the hair is no fun but it may ease up in time. Did you pretreat the hair in any way? I find that a good wash and DC of the hair helps minimize the bumps and skin irritation.

If you feel you must take it down (not much that can be done with a bad braid pattern underneath) be sure to be careful with the tracks so they don't get damaged. At the very least you want to be able to reuse the hair.

I had that happen to me before. You're probably allergic to the silicone coating on the hair. If you wash it, it will come off and you'll be alright. That's why a lot of people wash the hair before they install it. I wouldn't take it out yet. I'd try playing with it to try to make it work before taking it out.

The itching is most likely coming from the coating on the hair. It's always suggested that you wash your hair before installing to avoid getting the itchies. This happend to me before with hair I paid $340 for and washing while installed only made it worse.

wow sorry to hear that, you can try an ACV rinse to help with the itching and also I would contact her and ask for her to redo it. I feel your pain because my last sew in was the worst I had it installed 2 days but the good thing is I got half of my money back. Ever since then I learned to stay with my original stylist.

Sorry Ginsana, I totally feel you! This happened to me about 2 weeks ago. I have thinning hair in the crown so foolishly I let my stylist sew in a weave on hair that is already THIN (he should have advised against it). Well when I got home it was so pretty and curly but the next day I realized the dag on hair didn't match my texture AND u could see the weave net and the track in the front. My hair clearly is not full enough for a partial in the crown. SO I wore it in a ponytail for a while but by day 4 I snatched it the hell out! Wasted almost 300 bucks. I haven't gone back to him. I am mad at him and myself. The weave was wayyyy too heavy for my thin hair (the braids were spaced out and thin). Overall the look was not what I expected. NO MORE FAKE HAIR FOR ME...

I am so sorry this happened to you. But you spent a lot of money on that weave...I'd keep it in for at least a week or two.

Wow, I'm sorry this happened to you. I absolutely would've taken it out if I didn't like it. I don't care how much money I spend on hair, if I don't like it, it's gotta go, lol. But like msa said you have to look at the previous work of the installer. That's why I only allow my mother to do my weaves. BTW, I also use remy hair and like everyone else sais just wash it, that should do the trick. Plus the hair lasts, thats remy hair in my siggy, I use the same hair for appr. 3 installs and I keep my hair in like 3.5 months. HTH
