MacherieHair - Since when did those rollers become French?!

Hello Ladies.. I used to be a subscriber of macherie. To be honest, when I joined her site I didn't know ANYTHING about good haircare. I had searched the internet and truly didn't understand alot of the hair care lingo. I didn't even know how to roller set or even that there were different types of shampoos out there. Until one day I stumble across one of macherie hair videos and I was truly amazed by her explanations and hair. I immediately joined for 6 months. One of the ladies on there mentioned long hair care forum and I decided to investigate. If I didn't, to be honest I would still be paying $10.00 per month. I truly learned alot.

IMO, it's like paying $6 for a BLT when you could walk to the store and buy the ingredients for five sandwiches for half the price. People are paying $100 a year for the convenience of pre-packaging, and to have someone hold their hand through every step.

Haven't read the whole thread, but I am a roller setter and a member of her site. I've been looking for those rollers for 2 years, ever since she did a series of lessons on rollersetting with different types of rollers. They are not the mesh rollers at the BSS.

Trust me, it's worth paying for a hair website with no drama, clear concise videos without advertisements, and a positive community of women. It makes no difference how much one knows about hair care. You can look up old LHCF threads to see what a skeptic I was when she started the site, but I hardly ever post on here anymore and I get my money's worth over there.

ETA: I just had a chance to browse through this thread, and the negativity and name-calling is a prime example of why her site is worth the money. There's none of that on her website. There are some other free websites and low-cost ones where the negativity is not tolerated, either.

The mis-information on LHCF is abundant. People on this website go on and on and if everything they are saying is a fact and if you dispute anything using sound reason, it's a big debate. Everyone is trying to be a popular poster by talking about how "jacked-up" every black woman's hair is (unless, of course, she's a LHCF member). Half of the threads on this site are USELESS bickering, people asking random questions that never get answered, repeated topics, and criticism of people on YouTube. You pay $6.50, but you get what you pay for :look:. Ads with women in bikinis, ads for tires, ads for all kinds of junk. Hopefully, I won't get banned for saying that.

When I really look at it, I haven't learned as much on LHCF as I have from individual posters, many of whom do spin-off websites and blogs, just like Macherie.

That's the same thing I thought of when I saw it lol. I'll pass. I still haven't mastered the flexi rollers I have in my closet

She has gorgeous hair. I like her videos and wondered how different her videos on the paid site were compared to those she posts on YT.

I don't see the problem with her trying to sell her knowledge. I agree that the same or similar information can be found for free. But, there are lots of people who don't have the patience, computer skills, time or desire to hunt for stuff (or even search through hundreds of old threads to find a nugget of helpful information). If she is able to sell it and provides pre-researched and easy to digest information, more power to her.

Her prices aren't much different from other pay for use websites.

I've been a member since 2005 and Macherie's has been one of my favourite heads of hair since I started. I joined at the end of last year for only 1 month to see what she was offering and cancelled my subscription because there was nothing there that I hadn't learned here, but again,I've been a member for some years but for somebody who doesn't know anything about taking care of their hair, she gives basic step by step instruction and a lot of information condensed into a series of articles and classes and product reviews. The actual forum I did not find to be active. She is very nice and has always been so I wish her well.

I went to her website because lately there hasn't been a lot of threads for relaxed heads as there are more naturals than relaxed in the forum, so I was basically doing searches for old threads every time I needed some information. And it's much better these days but for during several months last year the relaxed heads-bashing by some members here got to be too much and I didn't find any positivity here so I was trying to find info and a community elsewhere.
