I read a long time ago that soap used to be made of lye and because we used to wash our hair with it, it made those pretty Josephine Baker waves.

lye-soap still exists and I bought some today(for skin purposes) but i wondered being stretched for weeks now with all this beautiful new growth what it would be like to gradually soften the hair with lye- soap. But then what about the pH? and neutralizing and conditioning and misturizing?

It's just a passing thought. I would never do it. I wished I knew how they did it back then.

things that make you go hmmmm?

I think all of the lye in soap is neutralized. It won't relax your hair at all. Some people use soaps in place of shampoo and they like it alot. But then again all of them were naturals, so I have no idea if it would work for relaxed hair.
