Low Level Laser Therapy (lllt) Technology And Devices

Also, I will have another follow up appointment in 6 months.

I'm surprised more people aren't commenting on this thread. Alopecia is very common amongst AA females. Would love to hear how other people are dealing with this.

I was just logging in to give my update. Didn't know you had tagged me. She put me back on antibiotics and the cortisone ointment. Says I need to be on it for 3-4 months. She had me on it for 4 weeks initially to see if it would benefit me. Also, she mentioned Rogaine but said I would have to be on it faithfully for a full year to determine if it worked or not. If I did grow hair as a result of the Rogaine then I would have to continue it to keep the hair it produced. I'm still thinking about that one. Not sure if i am ready to use it forever. I will continue with my current treatment and make a decision around the end of the year about it though.

@Hisbeloved - did the Doctor indicate if there was any noticeable improvement? You are right to think long and seriously before using Rogaine/Minoxidil. Doctors recommend it but it is also known that you will lose the regrown hair, if you discontinue use. It is a lifetime commitment (if you want to retain the hair) and it does have side affects. Rogaine/Minoxidil reminds me of the commercials on medications, where a long list of side affects, worse than the originally ailment being treated.
I know two ladies, who suffer from Lupus. Both are taking oral steroids (to treat the Lupus) and their hair is growing like Rapunzel. The hair growth rate is unbelievable, unfortantely they are both experiencing a tremendous amount of weight gain. A derm prescribed a topical steroid (fluocinonide) for me a few years back. I'm not sure if the effects would be the same - oral vs. topical - I think not.

I hope you start to see improvement with the treatment regimen the doctor has prescribed for you. Please keep me updated on your progress.

Yes she did see improvement and decided to continue with treatment. I'm also still using the iGrow helmet every other day for 25 minutes.

@ejfel - @Hisbeloved, any updates? How are you doing? I stopped the LLT and I won't purchase an LLT device until next year, MAYBE. I want to see if PRP delivers results. If I do both I won't know which is helping.

My right and center front hairline are definitely thicker. The left side, which had a little receding (~1") patch, hasn't thickened, but not yet to the degree I would like. Hopefully it will improve. Overall my hair is getting thicker.

I'm still using my IGROW helmet every other day. I'm almost done with month 4 and I'm also still taking antibiotics. Honestly, I haven't been so faithful with the cortisone cream but I have been using wild growth hair oil on my scalp. I think I've had some improvement but it'll take some months before I see a definite difference.

bumping

I had a consultation about PRP. It's $4500, 3 treatments at $1500 each. You have to get at least 3 treatments. One treatment they recommend adding A-cell to & it is an extra $500 which would make it $5000 but they offer $500 off if you buy all three treatments at once. That's a lot of money for something I have no guarantee of working or even getting a partial refund if it didn't work. I wish money was not an issue. Now I'm researching the igrow helmet. I saw on youtube where some people have made their own laser hats.
