I love to wear my hair down and try not to use heat. So I wrap my hair alot. Has anyone experienced any benefits like growth or negative drawbacks? :)

I been wrapping my hair for 16 years, every single night. I personally have never experienced any breakage, best thing ever for my hair. Latley I haven't been doing it, easier for me now to just tie scarf over my head wake up and go w/o any combing at all. ..just sheer laziness on my part.

Do you contribute your hair growth to the wraps.

yup, when I cut all my hair off into the Halle Berry cut, as soon as it reached ear length I started wrapping it and it made it much easier for me.
I heard some poeple have gotten negative results from wrapping such as thinning edges, etc. I know i haven't. after 16 years of doing it, still good and healthy.

Also thanks for the pics on the scarf method. It might give me a different way to wrap my hair at night so I can still wear it down. :)

I have been wrapping my hair for like ever! i havent experienced any negative side effects from it at all. No thinning edges. I use a wide toothed comb to wrap and then a smooth it over when Im done with a super soft baby brush and tie it down with a silk scarf.

I contribute wrapping my hair to some of my growth. It saved me from using too much heat.

My only problem was the hair along my hair line started breaking. I eventually figured out it was from the type of scarf I was using and from wrapping in only one direction. Once I figured out what the problem was I made the corrections (a better scarf & alternating which side to wrap to daily) and I was all set.

YES, yes & YES! I wrap or pin-curl my hair, have done so for years. I didn't experience the length with relaxed hair until I learned to wrap/pin-curl. I rarely wear my hair up and find that when I do, I get more breakage (but I have very fine hair).

I'm a lover of wraps (although I don't wrap my hair much now - because I don't wear it down often enough to wrap it). Plus, it's not always easy wrapping thick waist length hair.

I used to wrap all the time, but I started getting breakage around my hair line, so I started pin curling my hair. I only know how to wrap my hair in one direction, I see now that this might have been what was causing the breakage. Or, maybe I was not wrapping correctly :ohwell:

Are we talking about a wet wrap or a dry wrap?
I myself am referring to a dry wrap. I would never try to wrap all of this hair while wet (not a good idea). :nono:

so ladies who wrap, you do this when your hair is dry and never when wet? how do you style your hair when it's wet?

After I wash my hair I rollerset it dry. Once it's dry I'll wrap my hair for the rest of the week to keep the straight sleek look.

When my hair is wet I rollerset it to dry. I never wrap my hair when it's wet because it takes forever now that my hair is longer.

Is wrapping considered a protective style then even if your hair is down?

For me it is..I hardly ever wear my hair up when it is straight.Wrapping my hair is a way for me to protect my ends when I am home.I always feel the air at home is the dryest and most damaging.
I wet wrap instead of blowdrying because i find it less damaging and I get better results(hair looks more healthy and shiny).I dry wrap less then before because I noticed the ends of my hair thinning after a long period of time of wrapping.

I've been wrapping my hair for years now, don't know how many, and I have to say it has been a big factor in my hair growth. I can wrap in either direction, but I am most skilled at wrapping to the left instead of the right. And my hair is so trained to be wrapped taht when I'm outside and the wind is blowing, or if I'm in the car with the windows down, it will actually wrap itself!!!

I've been wrapping my hair for about a year now. And I have seen a lot of growth. I wear a silk/satin bonnet. There were times when I neglect to wrap my hair and that's when it starts shedding and getting split ends. I can't do without wrapping my hair now. (LOL)

I also need to purchase satin pillowcases.

I've been wrapping my hair for about 10 years now...and I love it! My only problem was, my right side start to get thin, and I never knew why until about 3 years ago when I heard if you wrap your hair in one direction all of the time, it can result in this. From then I have been wrapping my hair in a different direction every other night, and that side has filled back in nicely. I wear my hair up a lot, but I like to wrap my hair because it is easy to comb out in the morning. Besides, my hair is pressed, and it's practically the only way to keep my hair straight. I would recommend wrapping to anybody.
