I ended up getting the Remington T-Studio 1" Teflon Fiber Flat Iron. It uses ceramic technology and the plate are tightly covered with teflon fiber. It has an almost satiny feel to it, but not quite as slick as satin. It seemed to work best when I ran it over substantial sections of hair rather than tiny sections. It seemed to slide right off of the smaller sections. I had only a couple of hairs pulled out/snagged, and I did my entire head. It straightened and smoothed my hair as well as a pricier iron. (I know because I had the pink CHI or FHI, forgot which, once and returned it!)

Here's a pic:

It was $44 at Ulta. I am extremely happy with the price knowing that I will not be using it all that often. I'd hate to pay $100+ for something I'll only use 2-3 times a year!
