L’Oreal SUED Over Claims SoftSheen-Carson Hair Relaxer Is Burning Up Scalps & Ruining Edges [Photos]

December 19, 2016

Several woman have filed a lawsuit against L’Oréal over claims one of their hair relaxer products burned their scalps. They’re also demanding an immediate recall of the product.

via TMZ:

TMZ broke the story … L’Oréal was sued for selling a celebrity-backed product called SoftSheen-Carson Optimum Amla Legend No-Mix, No-Lye Relaxer — which the plaintiffs say singed their scalp and made them go bald.

L’Oréal fired back in docs, saying its packaging warns this very danger, and clearly instructs consumers on how to use it safely.

Ben Meiselas and Mark Geragos, who rep the alleged victims, say that’s a load of BS … and add L’Oréal is admitting the product has dangerous chemicals, despite advertising it “protects the scalp and skin.”

Geragos’ firm says it’s downright absurd to blame the women harmed by the product, and they won’t relax until the relaxer is completely pulled from the shelves.

A class action suit was filed in September asking for more than $5 mil.

Check out a few photos from the alleged victims below.

We sueing relaxer companies for lost edges now? Because I know a whole heap of women that can get in on this.

I'm kinda glad this is happening. I like the message that it sends to other black women.

I'm all about taking down the man, but this is stupid. It's right up there with suing McDonald's. You can tell all of them have horrible hair care practices.
Agree 100%. Any chemical put on the scalp has the potential cause damage to the scalp and hair. Before going natural, I had two relaxer set backs close to each other by two different brands of relaxer but I never even thought about suing...just took it as a sign to temporary (at the that time) stop getting relaxers.

I kinda agree with this. I can't buy sudafed or cough medication over the counter but I can buy chemicals that have the potential to burn and damage my scalp.

Before they sue they need to find where the instructions say the relaxer is supposed to go on your scalp in the first place... Oh wait, they probably can't.

The relaxers I had as a child never went directly on my scalp but that didn't stop the burns and thick scab all over my head.

That falls under drug laws. You can buy household bleach, ammonia, the works toilet bowl cleaner and know better than to mix that stuff and don't use it the wrong way. There is a warning label as clear as day on the relaxer packaging.

I see right now this is going to turn into some natural vs relaxed debate, and this is a troll/bait thread.
I'm not about to drink this kool aide! I'm out! Ya'll be easy!

Your body just might not be able to take those kinds of chemicals being that close to it. As I got older I realized that no one should have relaxer burns if their scalp is based correctly unless they are sensitive to relaxer ingredients. There are people who should be natural just because it's clear their body is having a bad reaction to relaxers but they won't give it up.
