Im a 3abc. I have all types. I would like to loosen my curls. I love them I really do but I can't deal with the tangles!! My hair is sooo fine and it tangles like crazy! I cant wear braidouts or twist outa because my hairs too thin. Ive tried henna. Didn't work. I have no idea what else to do because my hair is getting thinner and thinner every time I detangle from all the knots!! Can anyone help??

When was your last trim or dusting?

How is your protein moisture? Whats the reggi?

Shikaki powder seems to be loosening my 4b texture as well as heving well-hydrated strands.

Aren't they pretty loose now at 3abc?
If it's tangly, that's not because of the curl tightness. Try deep conditioning or steaming. Are you co-washing? Or sometime when my hair gets extra tangly, it's time for a good trim.

Otherwise, outside of relaxing/texturizing, maybe you can try heat training?

wavezncurlz is right, your hair should be plenty loose. Deep conditioning with heat and protein/moisturize balance works wonders for me.

Wouldn't heat training thin hair would be the kiss of death?

How many applications of henna did you do? Like everyone else said, I really doubt it is your natural curl pattern and more likely something else.

Checklist for excessive tangles and SSKs:

[] Unmanaged high porosity (slide a finger upwards on a shed hair - if it feels anything but smooth, your cuticles are standing up and inclined to snag on each other a la velcro.)
[] Low moisture or protein levels (^ cuticles again)
[] Not stretching hair when it's in a wet state, not focusing on keeping the roots stretched especially.
[] Fine curly hair - naturally unavoidable, sorry, but you can avoid it by going for straighter styles... with or without heat.
[] Inappropriate tools - what type of comb are you using?
[] Infrequent dusting - damaged ends stick out at odd angles, sometimes several angles, and that makes it easy for stray hair and shedding to loop through and form a knot.
[] Living in a region with hard water w/o using products to remedy this once in a while.

I struggled with this for a while myself, and my personal cause was 1) not stretching my hair after co-washing and b) not thinking about my hair state on a microscopic level. My hair looked moisturised, sure, but it didn't retain it for several days (and daily moisture = awful for fine hair) and my protein is on point too so I figured it was unaddressed porosity issues after a looooooooooong while of thinking.

Pre-pooing with ceramides instead of moisturising oils (i.e wheatgerm/sunflower instead of coco), sealing with ACV or aloe, cold rinses, regular light protein plus a switch up in style, and I'm okay now.

Also, check out the fine hair thread! I recall several people being confused about tangles there. :yep:

Maybe this would help,

My hair strand feel like running your finger on a ruber band if that makes sense

3abc hair shouldn't be hard to detangle. Are you putting your hair up at night? Keeping hair smooth in the shower?

Definitly read the fine hair thread.

Try gentle regular combing (not waiting a week for wash day). Fine hair just gets too tangly, and type 3 hair is easy to comb if you do it regularly. Use a good seamless wide tooth comb. Spray a little water, work it in, gently finger detangle or w/ the wide tooth comb, seal w/ oil.

Clarify if you have buildup. Avoid heavy, sticky products.

Airdry in braids.

Use protein.

I'd stay away from BKT/chemicals.
