I am new to the forum type 4b hair. Hair is over processed and I am sick over it.My hair is generally very healthy but now its in bad shape. Its been 8 weeks since my last perm. I want to go 8 more weeks and then get blowout for a while. I am using surge.Any product suggestions? Suggestions for styling during my transition? Also if anyone in the Metro-Atlanta area can suggest a good Dominican stylist please let me know PM. Goal healty Bra Strap.

Welcome Kim!!!

You've come to the right place. The ladies here know their stuff!!!

I usually wear braids to give my hair a break from relaxers.

I'm not sure that blowouts will be good if you get them frequently as that's a lot of heat for your fragile hair to deal with.

I do suggest protein treatments and moisturizing.

You'll get more input from the other ladies in the know.

Good luck and again welcome.

I'm in the same boat too kim. I'm beginning to make that transition as well and I'm lurking through the discussion (more than writing replies) in order to find the right products. I've started to do my own hair now, but even when i was going to a sylist every two weeks he told me to make sure I flat iron my new growth in order to keep it up with the relaxed ends. I don't know about your hair, but my hair likes heat, so I don't mind it. I've also begun to wash my hair once a week vs. once every 2 weeks just b/c after joining the board I can't stand for my hair to have all the build-up and such that goes along with it. We'll both catch on to what's right or wrong for our hair sooner or later!

Hey Kim! I normally don't post, but I felt a connection here. I had that problem back in 2002. I think you should get a touchup, followed with a deep conditioner for 30 mins under the dryer, get your ends trimmed, and have your hair wrapped or try a rod set. I like the flexirods myself. You shoud also use a shampoo and conditioner that is thick and creamy, (meaning it has alot of moisture in it) at least once a week. I think you should really try roller or rod sets so you don't have to do much to your hair. You know some people can't go very long without a touhup before their hair starts breaking. But if that is something you think is good for you then try the wet sets and then you don't have to worry about new growth. Also, find a good hair stylist and ask questions like how he or she feels about haircare and find out what products they use.

There is a place called "Lilly's" off Jummy Carter...never been there and only heard of it from doing an internet search. You can try www.blackhairmedia.com forums and ask them because thats where I found out about Lilly's.

I also got hair extensions and wore those for four months without getting a perm....those extensions were very expensive, but loked real and I think they were worth every single penny--cant get them this time though because I have to buy a boat load of other stuff and cant afford it....but next year, i'm there!!!!

You could also try wearing braids...if you decide to, there's alot of info here about it, or feel free to pm me, I have a lot of experience.
