Looking for a new product

I have been a paid member for over 2 years and this is my first thread, but I need advice pronto. I have done a big chop and nothing helps define, tame and hold my hair like that infamous brown gel(please hold those stones LOL, I know it is not in the best interest of my hair):perplexed but I can't find anything that works as well and I am a PJ to my soul. Any suggestions. Some advice from old nappyheads to a newbie about finding good quality products for retaining moisture would be welcomed also. When I leave the house my hair looks very moist, but by afternoon it looks dry and frizzy and I know I can blame it on that darn gel. HELP.

Awww! I know how you feel, Leave that good ol brown gel alone LOL!! Have you tried Fantasia IC Gel? Maybe you also need a good clarifying treatment, Do you do Conditioner Washes? My hair was rough and dry to when I first BC, and the only thing at that time that would work was qhemet biologics heavy cream and it really helped, maybe you are experiening scab hair, what is your overall regimen? how long have you been natural? You will get plenty of help so don't worry.

How r u wearing ur hair?

When I was natural, and on my DD--I use ORS Olive Oil Cream and Hollywood Castor oil grease. Luv that combo. The grease seems to keep the moisture in. I use that on her twists and when her hair is out in ponypuffs.

Also---I found that deep conditioning often really helps!!

Thanks ladies ;)

bmoreflyygirl: I haven't tried the Fantasia Gel but I will pick some up because it sure can't hurt.

ayoung1981: I realized that I am not deep conditioning as often because I co wash daily with Tresseme Smooth and Silky conditioner, but I will go back to doing so at least weekly along with using the 619(this is so good to my hair).

nappyparadis: I just bc'd a week bc'd about a month ago and my last relaxer was March 10,2007. Just rocking a barely there TWA and trying to learn what agrees with my hair which is very dry(my BIGGEST challenge to overcome)and quite frizzy(doesn't bother me much at all). Let me add that since I am in the NAVY I am constantly taking a ballcap on and off my all day 5 to 6 days a week (not very nice to my hair)

I also use BT and will be starting to use AfroDetangler from the Crown and Glory website.

Yay!!

When I first BC'ed, I didn't know what to put in my hair. It was cut so close to the scalp that I barely had any curl at all (some places actually were left straight).

If I could give you two pieces of advice:
1. Water is your best friend during this stage. Seriously. It automatically activates your curls and will keep your coils looking nice, moisturized, and healthy. I would alternate between cowashing and just using plain water on my hair.

2. Keep it simple. You don't need to use a whole lot of hair product when you only have 2 inches on your head.

When I cut my hair, I was working for a government/non-profit job so I didn't have a lot of time to style my hair in the morning. This is what I did :
In the mornings, I would wake up, stick my head under the bath faucet, and turn on the water until I felt like my hair was wet. I would wrap a towel around my head to soak up moisture. Then I would get dressed, put on makeup, etc.

After makeup, I'd go back to hair. I would apply a small amount of either shea butter or NTM leave in to my hair. Then I would use S-curl or Fantasia IC gel with Sparklites for curl definition. I would put on a headband and walk out the door.

That's it! I usually spent less than 5 minutes on my hair in the morning. Keep your hair moisturized and you will watch it grow - its a pretty cool thing to watch it grow out.

I'll see if I can't add pics to my foki that show a close up of my TWA - the products I mentioned and the "technique"(if you wanna call it that) I used really brought out curl definition.

Let me know if you have any questions!

TSU are you leaving in the Qhemet stuff? How is it? I have a sample that I tried once a while back. Maybe I should revisit it?

Yep, I use it as a leave-in. I think you should revisit it!

When I was natural, I used the Wave Noveau spray and moisturior. That stuff is the truth. I stayed moisturized and non greasy all day.

HTH

IvyHair: Thank you and I am still learning to keep it simple but I must admit I am falling in love with these curlies coming out that I really want them to feel nice and moist all day. So i will fill up that spray bottle with water and sneak away to the head(restroom) and juice em up. Thanks for the advice.

TSUprincess04: Thanks for the separate lists, I will be sampling away.

ChocalateDiva: Girl I forgot about WaveNouveau products, I will be keeping these on the in case nothing works emergency list

Thanks everyone I knew I would get some help from all you hairexperts round here. I may have to start posting more often.:D
